I groan loudly in pain as I wake up to a throbbing headache. My vision is foggy and fuzzy as I slowly gaze around my surroundings. I'm on the ground and bright lights fill my eyes. The light stings my eyes and I cringe then slowly get up. Carnival music plays in the surrounding and my eyes focus. Shock flows through me as I notice I'm in the middle of a carnival.
Booths of mini-games are set up, also with food booths as well as a marry-go-round, ferris wheel and a few small roller costars. It looks like an average carnival except, there's nobody here. I'm alone in this place. Against my better judgment I begin to explore the ghostly carnival. Nobody is here.. Then how did I get here? I ask myself. A man spoke to you before you passed out. My subconscious reminds me. I swear, I think my subconscious may be that Ravana guy sometimes.. You're partially right. It says to me again. I do tell you things sometimes. Ravana? Do you know what happened? I ask him. No. All I know is that you were taken from the bar by some clown looking freak. So you better watch out for him. Ravana replies to me.
I sigh quietly, great. What's better than a clown that abducts people. A loud cackly laugh makes me jump. The lights fade and spotlights move to a huge, monochrome tent, the only object that isn't colorful in this place. A man, I guess you could call him, stands outside the tent entrance. His arms are long, practically dragging on the ground and his black hair is long and shaggy. He begins to step toward me, the spotlight following him. "Welcome! The princess has finally awoken!" The creature's deep scratchy voice says, happily.
I watch in horror as he walks closer until he is a few feet in front of me. He's dressed in a striped black and white shirt with long black pants and matching striped socks. Black feathers are draped around his shoulders and black suspenders are attached to his pants. My eyes move to his face, instead of a nose, there is a long cone which is striped like his clothes. His mouth opens into a grin and his teeth are two rows of purely sharp teeth.
"How nice of you to finally join us." His voice purrs. Us? I question quietly. His freakishly long arms lift and children pour out of the tent he came from, laughing and giggling like maniacs. I quickly pat around my thigh for my knife, but it's gone. Panicking I look up at the man when he whistles to me.
"Looking for this?" He twirls my knife in his hand. "Before you can get this back, we are going to have fun." His lips grin again. "Come one, come all to the greatest freak show of all!" He laughs and disappears in a flash of black dust. In his place stands a Jack in the box toy. The kids continue to run around and giggle, eating candy in handfuls. They all stop when I pick up the box, then turn to me with their dead eyes.
Reluctantly I read the box before turning the handle, "Laughing Jack in a Box" the faded engraving reads. My hand find the handle and begins to crank it. A low, distorted version of "Pop Goes the Weasel" plays. The children begin to sing along, slowly stepping towards me. My palms become sweaty as I crank it more, the hypnotized children singing and walking closer. Finally the end comes and I stop cranking right before the song goes "pop".
The children begin screaming and I notice they are right beside me. Quickly I crank it a last time to make it "pop". The lid flies open and nothing happens, but the children stop screaming.
"Goes the weasel..." A deep voice says in my ear from behind, then laughter. The children's eyes return to normal and they begin laughing as well then hop and skip away.
"Congratulations princess! You won the first game!" The Laughing Jack says happily to me. Little does he know I practically had a heart attack. "Here is your reward." He hands me a piece of candy. I slowly take it, afraid to know what happens if I didn't take it from him. "Now eat it!" He says cheerfully before taking it from me again and undoing the wrapper before shoving it into my mouth. Sweetness explodes in my mouth, it was the best piece of candy I've tasted.
Laughing Jack grins at me, "that's a good girl. I have plenty more games for us to play before you get your knife back." He then laughs.
"Fantastic..." I mumble to myself.
A.N. That was so creepy. XD and amusing. Don't worry guys L.J. did not feed Jane any glass candy or candy that will brainwash her mind. Or did he? ;) naah he didn't (wink).
