Kain
The large double doors swung shut behind us as the Queen stormed out with her son. Mother's boy. It was no surprise that the King was hesitant about letting Claudius join the rank of knighthood. He would always run to mother instead of being a man. Then again, manliness was defined in different ways, for some it was being as bulky in muscle possible and for others it was about chivalry. For Claudius' case, it seemed that being manly was poking and running. Kain sighed mentally. One could tell that Kain dealt with this nearly every day.
"Can you believe that he's the wisecrack?" Aida said sarcastically and rolled her eyes. She crossed her lightly tanned arms and grinned. "But I can't believe that you're such a Grammar Juggler Kain." She laughed.
Kain shrugged and strode over to her desk and looked down at the literature book. "What do you need assistance with?" He asked.
Aida frowned. "I thought you would laugh at that. You never laugh Kain." She pointed out and sat down at the desk.
"That is because there is nothing amusing enough." Kain replied coolly and placed his right hand on the edge of her desk to get a close look at the book. He felt her shiver lightly at his close presence and clutched the quill with her right hand.
"Er, o-ok. I don't know how to translate this." She pointed at a line from Shakespeare.
Kain licked his lips and read the line aloud:
"Love is my sin, and thy dear virtue hate. Hate of my sin, grounded on sinful loving."
Aida's POV
"Love is my sin, and thy dear virtue hate. Hate of my sin, grounded on sinful loving." Kain read aloud in a quiet, yet allluring voice. I could the emotion from his voice as he read the voice aloud, as if there were a deeper meaning to him. Out of the corner of my eyes, I saw him reading out the words, translating it for me, but, no words were audible. As his lips continue to move, the only thing that I would hear, was the beating of my rapid heart. 'W-why am I feeling this way?' I asked myself. Yes, I know a lot of ladies in the kingdom are swooned by Kain and, literally, throw themselves at his feet, but...why am I acting like this? Before I could even process another thought, a sudden jolt of pain flared on the back of my head. "OW!" I yelled as my hands shot to wear the pain was.
"Were you even paying attention?" Kain asked. I looked up to see his face agitated with his hand crossed over his chest. "Well?" He continued.
"I, uh, yes?" I gave him a weak smile, hoping he would fall for that, even though I knew that he wouldn't. He just shook his head and sighed. "Now that I told you what it said, you have to decipher that.""Wait what?!" My jaw dropped to the floor. "But I didn't even get half the stuff!"
"Then maybe you should've listened instead of getting lost in your thoughts." You have got to be joking me right? Chapter 1 was hard enough, and I barely survived chapter 2. For goodness sake I was STILL on chapter 2! I slammed my head onto the wooden table. "This is murder." I muttered. There was a brief moment of silence before I heard the wooden doors open."Sir Kain! Lady Aida! His Majesty has requested your presence." With that said, the doors closed, letting me know that he had left. "Tell her that she can go rot in a hole." I muttered, my head still on the table.
"His Highness, not Her."
"He can die in a hole as well, along with their nappy headed son." I heard a chuckle and smiled just a little. It always brought me joy that I could make him smile once in a blue moon. I then turned my head to the side as Kain raised an eye-brow. "Do we have to go?" I whined. "I mean, all they want is me dead. I still never understood why I'm still living.""Aida, His Majesty called. It's a must. Now," he began as he pointed to my shirt. "Go change."
I pouted as I sat up in my chair. As much as I wanted to defy him and break into a sprint, first of all he would catch me in mere seconds, and if I defy him anymore, all hell will break loose. "Fine." I muttered as I, unwillingly, got out of my chair and made my way to my room. Once I stepped inside my chambers and closed the door behind me, I peeled off my inked shirt and tossed it into the laundry basket. I then rummaged through my shirts to find a simple dark green, long sleeved shirt. It was a form fitting shirt, I'm not going to lie, but it's comfortable as well, plus I have nothing to show off, so there is nothing to worry about. But what is to worry about, is the wretched King and Queen of the land. I swear them and the nobles are so busy flaunting their money and riches around, they don't even care about the commoners! I mean if the commoners weren't there, then what land would they rule? Not only that, but their children are even bigger brats.
I gasped as I suddenly fell to the floor. Something ominous was pressing against my mind. "W-what the...!" My stomach felt like it was going to release my breakfast, the room began to grow warm and I'm starting to see stars in my eyes. But that wasn't it, what made this worse, is that I feel filthy, as if I committed a sin. Was it because I insulted the Majesties and the nobles? No....no they don't have the intelligence of one. Just because they have books and scrolls doesn't mean they care about their literature. My throat starts to feel itchy and dry. What's happening to me?
Kain POV
Kain had felt the spirit within him jolt and the relics on his arms burn lightly as a wave of dark energy disturbed Aida. After she went to change, he had closed his eyes and thought. She was about to turn eighteen soon. Today was the 12th of June and so her birthday was the 20th of June...That was when her powers would awaken and therefore this was a sign. He needed to tell her truth, not the entire truth, but enough so that she could understand her destiny. Was that what the king that called them both for then? Fool. The King would not say a word until it was too late!
Kain's eyes snapped open as he heard a loud thump beyond the study/ library room. Not wasting another minute, he ran out of the room with inhumane speed, nearly knocking a set of towels from a maid's arms, and headed for the palace chambers. He knew where her chambers were because when she much younger, she would beg him to stay with her until she fell asleep. It was a large and lonely room for a small girl. It was one of the more lighter memories that Kain held onto.
He raced upstairs to the top floor and knocked on the wooden door to Aida's room. "Aida. Open the door." He demanded.
A choking sound came as a response.
Lifting up his boot, Kain kicked the knob off the door and slammed it open. He looked down and saw Aida on the floor, her hands to her throat, her eyes large with fear. Kain cursed aloud and scooped her into his arms, receiving her regurgitated breakfast on my chest She tried to say something, but the dark energy was working its demonic magic on her. Kain quieted her and laid her on her cot then pulled off his now pungent black shift, revealing the relics on my arms and the scars from the many years of war on his back and chest.
Her eyes were becoming unfocused as she struggled to breathe. Kain kneeled beside her and took hold of one of her hands. The relics on her arms glowed at the touch. "Give it to me Aida." He whispered. Her mouth struggled to open. "Give me the darkness." Kain pressed his lips against her fingertips. Slowly, but surely, Kain felt the sinister energy flow into his system. A flash of pain hit Kain's temple with the force of raging bulls, but he forced the pain to be pressed back.
"Good." He murmured as he saw her body gradually relaxing. Then, he leaned and pressed a soft kiss to her forehead, absorbing the rest of the negative energy. Her eyes flickered looked into his golden ones for a moment, then closed for a chance of reconciliation. Kain took a moment to allow his body to adjust, his breathing now a bit labored. Once he was sure that he was alright, Kain stood up and went to go sit down in the chair beside the closed windows. He would wait until she woke up, then take her to the king.
A small, distasteful smile came upon Kain's lips as he stared at her. "My biggest regret was not killing you at first sight."
