                                                                    3 Years Later

Today I was going to saddle train Midnight. So when I got up in the morning I took a shower and ate breakfast and headed out to the stable. I grabbed a halter and lead from the tack room and lead Midnight into the pasture. Then I went back and grabbed a saddle, saddle pad and bridle. I put the saddle and bridle on the fence and approached Midnight slowly and carefully. I let him smell the saddle pad to let him know I would not hurt him. Then I ran my hand down his back as I walked so he knew I was there, carefully I lifted the saddle pad to his barrel and put the saddle pad on. Midnight did not flinch. I went back to the fence and grabbed the saddle, once again letting Midnight smell it. Then I went over to his back and slipped it on top of the saddle pad. He flinched a little then stood carefully, I tightened the girth around his barrel and went to get the bridle. I almost slipped the bit into his mouth before he reared and ran to the other end of the pasture. I put the bridle on the ground and stepped toward him. He was scared. I pet his muzzle.

"it's okay boy." I said

I went to get another bridle and Twilight, maybe seeing his dam wear it would make him more comfortable with it. I slipped the bridle onto Twilights head. She stood there calmly. Midnight looked at her and stepped toward me. I then tried again to put the bridle. He flinched a bit but then calmed when his mother looked at him kindly. After I finished fastening all the parts of the bridle. Then I brought the mounting block over to him and stepped up. I carefully pulled myself up. Midnight almost lost his balance and dropped me, but luckily he did not.

After mounting I taught him all the ways I would tell him to go forward, backward, left and right. When I was done I dismounted and lead both Twilight and Midnight back to their stalls. I untacked Twilight and brushed her, then I untacked Midnight and brushed him. I brought grain to Midnight's stall and filled his trough, then I filled his water trough and gave him a treat.

"You worked very hard today boy," I said

Dad came in a fed Twilight, then we went in the house and ate dinner. After dinner, we went to bed and fell fast asleep.
