The bright sun streamed through my window. Lucky was still fast asleep. I carefully slipped out of bed and headed to the barn. Twilight was also fast asleep. She looked tired. I sighed and watched her calmly sleeping.
"Unfortunately this will be your last few hours here Twilight." I whispered as a tear rolled down my cheek.
I wiped the tear away and got the horse feed, then I ate breakfast in the barn with Lucky, Twilight and Midnight. Twilight could sense my sadness. She wrapped her neck around me. I hugged her back.
"I love you Twilight." I said
I finally put my bowl of cereal away and prepared the trailer for Twilight. I stuck a fresh sliced apple and sugar cube in the trailer. Then I lead Twilight into the trailer. Then I headed to the vet's office.
When I got there the vet was waiting already. I lead Twilight into a pen and stood by her head. I wanted her to go in peace, not in fear. The vet got the needle ready and injected it into Twilight. Twilight slowly fell asleep. She was gone now. The vet helped me carry Twilight into the trailer. Then she lit a candle and stuck a picture of Twilight beside the candle to signify that I had lost my beloved Twilight. Then the vet got into her truck and I got into mine and we headed home.
When we arrived home we dug a hole in the ground and put Twilight in. After that we put the dirt over top and stuck a gravestone with Twilight's name on it. When I called my mom to tell her about Twilight she suggested we have a funeral for our beloved horse. I agreed with that.
The next day mom, Vanessa her sister Maggie and a few other people I knew arrived. I made a speech about Twilight.
"Twilight has served my family for a while, she has been with us for about 35 years now and I think my family provided her an amazing home that I think any horse could want. I want you all to know that this might not even be a bad thing, this may be a good thing, for Twilight. She does not have to suffer the pain of age anymore. She can have a good afterlife." I said
Mom hugged me along with Vanessa. Vanessa, mom and I all bought flowers. We put it beside Twilight's grave. Then we talked and ate some lunch. Finally when the funeral was over everyone left. I cleaned up the house a little and fed the horses. Finally I put Midnight back in his stall, he was the only horse in here anymore. Lucky and I went inside to my bedroom. Lucky went to his usual spot in the end of my bed and I went to my usual spot in my bed.
