Today I was going to take Midnight and Lucky to be put down together. It would be best for the both of them. They were old now. I fed them their food and gave them some treats too. I gave Lucky a meat patty and Midnight a few sugar cubes. I wanted to spoil them on their last few hours. Jack and I ate breakfast in the barn with Lucky and Midnight and read a story to them after we were done. After breakfast I prepared the trailer for Midnight, I put a few more sugar cubes in the trailer, some fresh smelling hay and some water in the trailer. Then I prepared the middle seat in the truck for Lucky. I put a piece of fish there with a nice blanket in the seat. Then it was time to go. I slipped on a freshly cleaned halter and lead on Midnight and lead him in the trailer. Then I slipped both off, hung them up and closed the trailer door. Then I patted the middle seat to tell Lucky to jump in. Lucky gladly pulled his weak old body up and enjoyed the meat patty as we drove. When he was done he drifted off for a nap.

When we arrived at the vet Lucky jumped out of the truck and I pulled Midnight out of the trailer. I read them another quick story while the vet was finishing up with her last patient and she came out to greet us. First she began with Lucky. She gave him a treat and put the needle in. Then she gave Midnight a treat too and put the needle in. After they had been put down we loaded them back into the trailer and planned another funeral for them.

On the day of the funeral Vanessa and a few other people came. We all buried Lucky and Midnight beside Twilight's grave. I also gave each of them a short speech.

"From birth to death, up's and downs me and Midnight have been together. My father did not believe he could survive, but he did. He lived a longer life then a normal horse would have. No matter how broken a horse is, always give it a chance, because it might just survive longer then usual. Midnight served me well as a horse. Helping me when I needed him. Lucky did too. When I rescued Lucky from the old barn I could tell immediately I would love him. When no one else wanted him I adopted him, and I am sure glad I did. Lucky, Midnight and Twilight all were great friends. I am so glad I managed to rescue Lucky." I said

I put flowers on both Midnight and Lucky's grave and thought.

"Midnight had been with me from birth to death, up's and downs and much more. I could have asked for no better horse." I thought
