Beti's POV

James has been obsessed with reading a bunch of pack history books over the last two weeks. I have been getting healthier bit by bit. My weight has reaches its old level, but James and his mom want me to gaine a few more pounds. The colour has returned to my skin, and my hair doesn't look as flat.

I walk into the bathroom closing the door behind me. After washing my hands I walk back out and James head snaps to me with wide eyes.

"What?" I ask walking to my side of the bed.

"Umm, nothing.... How do you feel?" he asks wearily.

"Fine...." I say slipping under the covers.

"Are you sure? No pain? No...... Weird feelings?" he asks being extremely vague again.

"Yeah, I'm sure. Why are you being so weird?" I ask raising my eyebrow at him.

"Umm, no, no reason." he says going back to reading his pack history book. I move closer to him trying to get his attention back. He looks back at me with a strained looking face.

"What's wrong?" I ask becoming extremely confused.

"Nothing you have to worry about." he says trying to focus back on his book.

"Come on, tell me!" I say moving closer to him once again till there is only a few inches between us. His whole body tense up with my closeness. That's never happened before.... "James what's going on? Your starting to scare me..."

He quickly stands up and heads into the bathroom without warning. Then his voice comes out from behind the door.

"You need understand a few things before I explain why I'm hidding in the bathroom." he muffles through the door.

"what do I need to understand?" I ask

"Something about mates..." he says fading off.

"What? The fact we're mates? That me and you are each others soul mates?" I say relaying the information he has told me throughout this last month. I've come to accept most of it, and James seems willing to take it slowly. I'm not sure that I am on board 100% yet, but after the pain I went through I'm not going to deny that we're mates.

"No. Not exactly...." he says and I roll my eyes starting to get annoyed with his vagueness.

"James, if you don't tell me what's going on I am going to make you sleep in that bathroom tonight." I say hopping that motivates him.

"Umm... Aaaaa.... Why don't you go ask my mom to explain what heat is. It will be awkward for me to explain it." he mumbles. I roll my eyes getting off the bed.

"Do you know where she is?" I ask opening the door to the hallway.

"Her bedroom." he calls and I salute the door even though I know he can't see. I head off down the hall to his parents room an knock on the door.

"Come in!" his mom calls. I open the door and peak in. "Oh hi Beti!" she says setting down the newspaper she was reading.

"Hi mama C." I say walking in shutting the door behind me.

"What's up sweetie?" she says smiling at me as I sit down on the end of their bed.

"James sent me." I start explaining. "he wants you to explain heat to me." I shrug as she takes her glasses off. "he clames it would be awkward for him to explain, but I don't believe him. Do you know he's lock himself in our bathroom?!" I scoff at the thought, but she doesn't seem quite as amused.
