Cloverkit woke up as the setting sun's rays cast their light in her eyes once more. She grumbled and got to her paws. Petalkit roused beside her, kicking her legs to get on her feet. Cloverkit sighed. Great, now she'll whine about Cloudstor- She gasped. Cloudstorm! He's supposed to come! Oh I hope we didn't miss him.

"What's wrong, Cloverkit?" Petalkit whispered, "Did you have a bad dream or something?" Petalkit shook some clinging moss shreds from her gray pelt.

"No," Cloverkit mewed, "It's just Cloudstorm is supposed to come, and-" She was interrupted by Petalkit's happy flurries of squeals. "Yay! Cloudstorm is coming!"

Sandfire rose her head behind them. "Oh? Cloudstorm rarely comes to the nursery." She remarked, "Wonder what he's up to." Sandfire got to her paws and padded outside. "Come with me. Let's get a bite to eat."

Cloverkit looked at Petalkit. "I have forgotten that we could eat prey now." she meowed. Cloverkit padded outside and followed her mother, Petalkit trailing behind. Cloverkit stared at the ground below her, watching her paws trod on the camp's rocky flooring. Her feet made a crunch noise as they trodded through the small rocks.

"Cloverkit, hurry up!" Petalkit's voice rung in Cloverkit's ears, bringing her back to her current situation. "Y-Yes! I'm coming!" She meowed, and hurried up toward her sister.

Approaching the fresh kill pile, she looked through the prey: sparrow, mouse, vole, shrew, and even a rabbit. A rabbit! I bet those are tasty. Yet I wonder how WindClan tolerates them as their meal every day! Instead of choosing the plump rabbit, Cloverkit chose the sparrow and dragged the bird toward the nursery to eat.

She sat next to Sandfire, who had chosen the shrew and began ripping at the feathers. Once getting toward the bone, she felt the pawsteps of two cats coming towards the trio. Cloverkit looked up, some feathers clinging to her muzzle and saw Cloudstorm and Freezinglight. Both looked happy together, but Cloudstorm stared at Sandfire with a cold look. Why is he looking at her like that? What's going on?

Petalkit bounced to her paws. "Daddy!" She mewled and bounded toward him, her eyes bright and filled with joy. But Cloudstorm didn't look too happy to see her. In fact, he looked rather disgusted. Petalkit stood in front of Cloudstorm. "It's finally nice to se-"

"Get away you worthless fool!" Cloudstorm snapped, unsheathing his claws and glaring down at Petalkit.

Petalkit backed away, her once happy eyes now bright with fear. "D-Dad..?" She mewed, her voice now merely a whisper. "W-What's wrong...?"

Freezinglight began to pad toward Petalkit, and stared down at her with a look of disgust. "What's going on is that he doesn't love you anymore. He loves me."

Cloverkit's eyes widened. "Wait, what about Sandfire? A-And me..?" She shrinked to the ground and was dimly aware of Sandfire curling her light orange tail around her.

Freezinglight looked at her. "He doesn't love you two either. Forget him. He's out of your league now." Freezinglight brushed her cheek lovingly against Cloudstorm, who stood rigid in his place, as if thinking of something.

Cloudstorm finally looked at Sandfire, his eyes narrowed into slits, claws unsheathed and voice icy cold. "Listen well: If I ever see you around me again, you will be the next prey in the fresh kill pile. You are not my mate, you never were. I never loved you, and I never will. So keep off. It's for your own good." Cloudstorm padded away, his claws still unsheathed and his hackles raised. Freezinglight cast one cold look at the shocked trio, and bounded after him.

Sandfire took a deep breath. "I-I think that's all for our evening meal... come on, young ones. L-Let's go inside for the night." She padded inside the nursery, and motioned with her tail for Petalkit and Cloverkit to follow.

"L-Let's go inside, Petalkit..." She began padding toward the nursery when she didn't feel Petalkit following. "Petalkit?" She looked back at her sister. Petalkit was like a rock. Her legs were stiff, her tail didn't move, and her face remained the shocked expression it had been.

Petalkit suddenly stared back at Cloverkit, her eyes wide. "S-So we'll n-never see him again..? I c-can't talk to him anymore..? W-What's the meaning of this!?" Tears began to drip down Petalkit's face and she began to choke a sob.

Cloverkit laid her ears back and nuzzled her sister. "I don't know, Petalkit... It seems as he found a new cat to love.. that's not us." Cloverkit placed her tail on her sister's shoulder. I don't know what to do. StarClan help us...please.
