Friendship

*prompt-12minutes*

I remember the way we used to be friends
How we would talk for hours on end
But communication got heavy
And we got tangled in miscommunication
And the talk of others got us confused
So we ended up wondering if we really knew each other.
If all that talk we did was just the wire to someone else's telephone
If we sprang to our feet with secrets on our lips
Waiting to be spilled
I wonder if you think of me as a monster
With a mouth too big to keep shut
Even though i only let words escape when i was around you.
I wonder if you remember the way we used to be
Constantly conjuring conversation
We barely slip more than two syllables to each other now
We do not speak unless spoken to
And we wear muzzles around our mouths
To keep us from letting words slip too easily
We used to only talk around each other
Not get mixed in long rumors twisting our words into abstract compositions of its origin
There are days when i wonder if our friendship was more then the 9 letters
If our words now share any value.
We do not speak
Because of the unforgotten spoken words from others
That let our speech
Become inaudible over the racket
Of everyones words in our ears
I wonder if you still
Find my words
Unpleasant
If they leave sharp glass in your ears
As if my words were poison
I tried to save you from
The Screeching sentences calling your name
But my words would never save us.
Telephone wires slip around my body
And wrestle their way to my neck
Chocking out words i did not mean to say
Letting my speech fall out for you to catch
But you only caught your breath
And assumed my cords
Were out to attack you
In my effort to get communication running again
So we clipped our wires
To our telephones that were connected for years
Leaving a single string
To hold our words.
