Minutes after Fury left us to set up for Loki, there was a flash of light. As it died down, I saw Thor with a raven haired man I could only assume to be Loki. As soon as I saw him, I got a wave of dread. The man standing before me was a renowned war criminal throughout the nine realms. He had enforced handcuffs and a muzzle, that he wasn't trying hard to fight against. He must be used to being in chains. If anything, that is more unsettling. I had been on many missions dealing with criminals like him, but he was somehow different, and it terrified me. He was somehow fierce and hard, but with a tinge of dread and sadness in his eyes. I couldn't help but feel bad for the guy. Thor's deep, boisterous voice broke me from my thought.
"My friends, I hope this works well." He looked around at all of us, patting Loki on the back.
"I hope so too, reindeer games," Tony said, smirking.
Loki's eyes started to narrow, and he became extremely defensive. I have been in his place, on the receiving end of Stark's jokes. It isn't fun. I looked at the group, and noticed at least two of them were silently urging me to read Loki. They were basically screaming at me telepathically. I planted a couple of words of confirmation into their heads before I turned back to Loki. I focused all my power into his mind, but I was blocked. Of course he would come with protection against mind control. I read what he did in New York. It was almost like he did his research before he arrived. Either that, or Thor spilled the fact that there is a new team member. Either that, or he just always has that protection up for some reason. Thor does have a tendency to tell the enemy our secrets, especially if it's his brother. I made eye contact with Loki again, and he smirked to himself, knowing he had succeeded.
With that, Loki was dragged inside, with the smirk still plastered across his features. As soon as he was out of earshot, Steve turned to me.
"Aviana, what in god's name was that?" He said, trying to keep his voice down. I calmly turned to him.
"I tried to read him, and he resisted. Simple as that."
"He must have done something, he had that smirk on him. I don't like it."
"He was just happy he resisted me. I don't just read minds, Rogers. There's a little thing called body language." With that, I turned and left the roof to follow Thor and Loki back inside. I walked into the elevator and went down to the main floor alone.
Once I exited it, I saw Thor and Loki walking down the hall towards what apparently would be Loki's room. I crouched low and began listening. Thor was going on and on to his brother about how he would learn to love it here, and this is the best he could do for him. All the sudden they stop.
"Brother, this is your residence for the time being. I will take the muzzle, but the handcuffs have got to stay. Bathrooms are right down the hall," Thor said before Loki slammed the door in his face, clearly wanting to be alone. He started back towards me and the elevator. I stood up and made myself look inconspicuous.
"Lady Aviana! Thank you for your decision to do take my brother in. It was either this or the dungeons on Asgard for the rest of his life."
"No problem, Thor. I just thought that maybe he isn't as bad as people cut him out to be."
"Aviana, He killed 80 people in two days."
"I am aware of that. Did you really think I didn't do my research on his attack before I joined this team? I know what I am getting myself into."
And with that, I turned and left for a final psychopath sweep to make sure we were solid enough. After I had checked every single surface and corner, I resided in the music room with all my instruments. I would always go there for comfort, when I wasn't so sure about things. This time, I was petrified of the man that was practically living across the hall from myself. I wandered over to the instrument lockers and pulled out my flute. I had played it for years now, and it acted as my safety net when things got a little rough in SHIELD, or just within myself. It gave me a sense of relief.
---Loki POV---
After Thor dropped me in my room for the next couple of weeks, months, or however long, I took a look around. I relaxed a bit when my eyes rested on a small bookshelf, filled with my most prized Asgardian books. At least they allowed me these. I walked towards the shelf and pulled out my favorite. I needed something that was even remotely familiar right now. I became immersed in the story I had read a thousand times, almost immediately. Half way through, I was rudely interrupted by a beautiful flute solo playing in my mind. This has happened many times before, but this time, it was much stronger, almost as if the player was trying to communicate with me. I listened for a while, attention completely ripped from the book. It was truly beautiful. The person knew their craft. After it ended, I heard a sigh. Definitely female, no doubt about that. The pitch was too high for the vocal cords of a male. I blocked my mind from any more penetrations and continued reading.
---Aviana's POV---
Once I finished the cover of the song I was working on, I sighed to myself. I started another, then another, and finally I realized Steve is probably worrying about me. I took my flute with me, not even thinking of putting it back. I wandered back to the main room. Steve, Natasha, and Clint were all sitting there, apparently awaiting my arrival.
"Sorry, I got a little carried away," I said quietly, putting my flute down on the table.
"I noticed," Nat said, almost sarcastically. "We have to keep our guard up."
"I get it, Romanoff." She sent a look in your direction and stood up, clearly off to do something else. I did the same, grabbing my flute on the way out.. I had a new personal mission: Learn about Loki's past to better understand why he was doing those things to all those people. I needed to find Thor to try to see how Loki was like before New York.
