"Why do you need to know about Loki? You've done your research about New York," Thor said, eyeing me suspiciously.
"I have, but what I want to know is what was he like during your childhood? What was he like before he turned?"
Thor looked at me with such surprise that I concluded he hasn't gotten this question about his brother in years and years. People must only think about Loki as a villain, and not why he was evil in the first place.
"Well, Loki is of Jotunheim. He is a frost giant, unlike me, an Asgardian. He was abandoned by his father, Laufey, King of the frost giants, during a war against Asgard. He was found by the allfather, and taken as one of his own. He grew up happy, always learning magic from our mother, Frigga. He was later coined the title: 'God of mischief'. We were happy together. Always playing with each other, always sparring with each other, until recently."
Thor was slowly getting quieter, remembering the days before the whole Loki situation. I could tell he loved his brother dearly. I responded to him in his same soft tone.
"What happened recently? You can tell me." I could tell he was nervous to talk.
"Recently, I was to be crowned king of Asgard. In the middle of the ceremony, we were attacked by a group of frost giants in our vault. I was so angry that they had ruined my coronation. I seeked vengeance on Jotunheim, and committed treason to attack the frost giants. I took my friends, and Loki into Jotunheim. During the fight, my father, the king appeared from the bifrost and received a declaration of war from Laufey himself, made at my foolish actions. As soon as we returned to Asgard, I was banished for treason against the throne. During my time away, Loki discovered his true heritage, and was furious with himself for being and I quote: 'The monster parents tell their children about at night.'"
With that, I understood. Loki is a broken man driven by his hatred for his father and for himself. Thor kept going.
"With that, Odin fell into the Odinsleep, and Loki was crowned king. He was driven to do terrible things. He tried to kill me, which is understandable, but as soon as I returned with my friends to asgard, I found him angry. He tried to use the bifrost to rid the nine realms of jotunheim in his blind anger. I tried to reason with him, but it was no use. I had to break the bridge to stop the bifrost, and by doing so, we both fell off. We were caught by our father, but after Odin denied Loki acknowledgement for his act of bravery, he let go of the spear that was holding him. That is when he turned up in New York. You know the rest."
Thor sighed, getting up. "I hope this helped you better understand his situation. He needs all the help he can get that isn't from me. I just want my brother back."
And with that, he left my room, closing the door softly behind him. I had to get closer to Loki. He needed help even though he did not know or want it.
