Chapter 8 – DAY 05 Part 3

I took a deep breath. “Robert was crying. I asked him who the girl was. He stares at me with his red eyes. He’s obviously been crying for days now. He told me everything. And it goes like this:

Last Tuesday, I was about to leave for school. While cruising the North Road, a man probably in his twenties was waving desperately at me on the side. I stopped the car and opened up my window. I asked him what the matter is. He said that his car ran out of gas. He asked me whether I could give him a lift to the nearest gasoline station. Well, because the station is just a few meters away, I decided to give him one.

He asked me whether he could smoke. So we just opened our windows. We are about to reach the gas station when he asked me to pull over. I still have an hour left before the school bell rings so I did what he said. He went out. Then a few minutes have passed and a car pulled over at the back. The guy whom I just helped went directly to the other car. I looked at my side mirror to see what they’re doing. The other man from the other car handed him a parcel. I was about to call you to say that I’ll be late to pick you up when I heard a gunshot. I was startled that I nearly bumped my head on the roof of the car.

Then, the man from before ran directly to the passenger side and I asked him what happened. He said I should fire the engine and get the hell out of there. I shook my head and he pointed me his gun. My heart skipped a beat. I still love my life so I did what he just said. He said that I should drive as fast as I can. Because we’re on a hurry, we have even passed the gas station.

We have reached the South Road and then he said he will get off at South Mall. I dropped him off. He reached for his bag and gave me a bulky envelope from the parcel. He said that it’s my portion. He went away and I saw him as he threw something on the garbage bin and went in the mall. I opened the envelope. From the sight of it, I knew already it is weeds contained in a Ziploc. That guy just gave me illegal drugs. The view of policemen on the entrance of the mall made me grew weary. I started the car and went away. I don’t know what I should do with it. All I know is I just have to get rid of it.

I was back at the North Road when I noticed a car tailing me. I increased my speed but the car matched it. It even came to the point that we are side to side. The man driving the car opened his window and shouted something at me. I just looked ahead. And the next thing I know, he bumped his car on mine. I opened my window and he said I should pull over.

I can’t. I’m dead if I did. He bumped his car again on mine. I lost control of the car. My car began spinning until it stopped on the middle of the road. I felt dizzy. He opened my door. He asked me where the money is. I asked him what money he is talking about. He punched my face very hard that I thought my head is about to fall out. I said I don’t know what he’s talking about. He then saw the envelope at the passenger seat. He said who the hell am I kidding. He grabbed a handful of weed. I said I am not the one he transacted with. It was another man. He doesn’t seem to believe my story. He said that the man before was my friend.

I said I barely know that man. He punched me in the face once again and said that his companions are on their way so I better give the money. I decided to just pay him so I asked him how much. He said $10,000. I said I don’t have that kind of money. He spit on my face. He said better have it or I’m dead. I looked at my battered face on the mirror.

Then few other cars began parking in the road where we’re in. They went directly to my car. There are probably three other men, on their thirties and two women. They asked the guy whom the other girl called Sam about the money. He said that my “friend” escaped without paying. The other man grabbed me out of the car. He began punching me on the face, on the stomach, and everywhere. The blonde girl whom he’s with began screaming to stop. He did instantly. The other girl asked me one last time about the money. Again, I answered the same thing.
