Chapter 9 – DAY 05 Part 4

“I don’t even know why he asked for a very big amount of money. He answered me with these:

You’re probably wondering why I asked for a large sum of money. Yes, I would pay Sam and the others with the money for their weeds. But, I also want to help my family. With that amount of money, I can pay the bank loan my parents are paying for ages. I can also help my brother in his college funds. We can both buy our dream cars and let our dream girls chase us.

Also, I plan on moving out away from here. Away from all these people. Away from all these painful memories. Lucas, you can help me do that. You can help me fulfill my dreams. My dreams of a simple life with my family.

“I only felt awe on what Robert has become. He said that he’s willing to give me half of the ransom money. But I said I don’t need that money. But the fear in his eye of not being able to pay Sam consumed him. I offered to ask for my parent’s help. But he immediately declined my offer. Saying that he don’t want to be my family to be involved anymore. And then he asked me: Will you help me?

“I can no longer say no. He’s my friend ever since and I don’t want to disappoint him. But still, I feel hesitant about what we will do. I am running out of options and he’s pitiful face staring back at me convinced me to do it. And the next thing I know, I nodded. He cried and gave me tight hug.”

The doctor paid so much attention with my story that she no longer wrote anything to the piece of paper.

She took a deep breath. “Then what happened?”

“We took turns in looking after the girl. I noticed that from the time I met her, I haven’t even seen her move. But Robert said that he has forced a sleeping pill to her. He told me the rest of his plan. I opened the girl’s bag to look for some identification. Her name was Emma Hoffman.

“While Robert was out, I decided to at open her blindfold. But he caught me and stopped me instantly. He said that I shouldn’t do it because the girl may remember me. Robert said that I should not call or answer any calls which are kept on coming from mom and dad. I remember my promise with his mom to call her if Robert had contact with me. But I dropped the idea.

“Robert said that I should rest and it’s his time to look after the girl. I went to the room just across the living room door.”

I can’t stop from crying. The doctor looked at me with awe.

“I think I no longer know nor remember the old Robert. He is now consumed by his evil desire and I know I am also being drawn in the pit of hell along with him.”

I wiped my tears with the dirty handkerchief I had on my pocket.

“Life is so unfair. He has good intention to help someone and yet, it turned out to be his worst nightmare. Is that the price he has to pay?”

I freed out the sadness I’m containing within myself. The doctor just stares at me with the pain in her eyes. Somehow, I reached out to her.
