Chapter 06; Teaching Them to Kill, Then to Die

"Well, hello there." A smooth voice greeted warmly as a man approached her from behind. [name] was sitting at the edge of a small coy pond in her favourite little park, feeding the fish. "I didn't expect to see someone else here on this fine day."

"It's not the day, though." She said. "It's almost two in the morning, sir."

"Right you are." The man said as he sat down on the bench that was just behind [name]. "So what's a young lady like you doing out here at this hour?"

"Mmmm..." She hummed for a moment. "Couldn't sleep. What are you doing here at this hour?"

"I couldn't sleep, either." He said with a shrug.

[name] nodded and threw some food into the water for the fish. "I once heard a legend about coy fish. They try to swim upstream, and if they make it all the way, they turn into a dragon. Isn't that interesting?"

"Is there a point to that story?" The man asked as he rose a brow.

"Only if you want there to be."

The man hummed in thought for a few moments before he nodded. "Interesting point, then." He said, earning a snort of a laugh from [name].

"I had a dream the other night where it was snowing indoors." She then said. "It was nice at first, but then it got really really cold. But no one could go home because everyone had to finish their paperwork, so everyone was really cold the whole day. It snowed at the office where I work, by the way. That probably wasn't clear."

"You certainly like to babble, don't you?" The man asked.

"So I've been told."

"Well, then, Babbles, that seems like an odd dream."

"It was odd!" [name] said as she stood up. "Also, did you just call me Babbles?"

"Yes, I did. That's my new nickname for you, since I don't know your actual name, after all."

"My name is [name]."

"Thank you, but I'll still call you Babbles."

[name] puffed her cheeks in a pout at that. "Well, what's your name, anyway?"

The man then stood up from the bench, taking his hands out of the pockets of his white lab coat. He held out a hand to [name] as he smiled. "My name is Mori Ougai, it's a pleasure."

[name] shook his hand with hesitation. "The pleasure is all mine." She said.

"Oh no, believe me, it's mine." He said as his nice smile turned to a smile that was a bit more unsettling.

"Rintarou!!" A young voice called from a short ways behind where [name] and Mori were.

"Elise-chan!~ You've come to join me?" He asked as he lowered his hand and looked back at the so called 'Elise'.

"Is that your daughter?" [name] asked curiously.

"What? Oh, no, not really." Mori said, only half paying attention to [name] as Elise walked over.
