Chapter 02; a Cat's Encounter

𝚌𝚑𝚊𝚙𝚝𝚎𝚛 𝟶𝟿

"Thank you for coming in today, sir." She offered a professional smile to the man before her. "Please, follow me so we can get started."

"Of course." The tall blond followed as she started walking down the halls to her office. "About how long will this take, would you say?"

"It should only be an hour or so. Since today is day one, I'll only be asking you some questions." Once the two reached her office, she held her badge to the scanner so she could unlock the door. "I promise it won't be too long."

"Good. My schedule today is very busy, but it will be fine so long as this doesn't take longer than one hour and seven minutes." He walked in with her and took a seat in the chair across from her desk while she went to gather her materials.

"Alright, then let's get started!" She sat at her desk with a notepad, a few sheets of questions she needed to ask, an audio recorder, and blank, patterned papers. She set the recorder on the desk and started it. "Would you state your name for the record, please?"

"Doppo Kunikida."

"Oh, hello there," [name] walked a few steps into an alley and squatted down, a soft smile on her face (as opposed to her usual grin). "Are you a stray?"

A mostly black kitten was sitting down on the ground of the alley, looking pretty malnourished and in need of some love and care. It had some patches of white fur here and there, and mismatching green and blue eyes. "Aren't you just the cutest thing?! Don't worry, I'll take you back to my dorm and give you something to eat! You look pretty hungry." [name] very very gently picked the kitten up and it mewled softly. "You'll be good as new in no time, I promise."

"[name]! Are you there?" Kunikida called as he knocked on the girl's door.

"It's open, Kunikida! You can come in, I'm kinda busy!" The (hair colour) haired girl was busy caring for that stray cat she found earlier. She already gave him some food, and so she was now trying to gently clean him up a bit. Kunikida sighed gently as he opened the door and walked in.

"I came to give you an update on that girl— is that a cat?" The blond rose a brow.

"Yes! I found him on the streets, so I took him in!" [name] smiled as she continued to clean up the cat. "Isn't he a pretty little kitty?"

"Sure. Listen—"

"And he's a mostly black cat. Do you think that he would still count as being a bad luck black cat? Or does that only apply to cats that are one hundred percent black?"

"[name], is now really the time to be messing around with a cat?"

"He's like two things as the same time while being neither at all!" She gasped gently. "Kinda like Schrödinger's cat!"

Kunikida pushed up his glasses. "Why don't you name him that, then?" He suggested. If it was anyone else, he would be openly annoyed with the cat nonsense right now, but Kunikida was always gentle with [name]. "Schrödinger. I assume that you haven't named him yet, right?"

"I haven't! That's a great name, too! Schrödinger, it is!" [name] chirped. "Now, you came to talk about the little mafia girl, right?"

"More, please!" Kyouka said once she finished her helping of boiled tofu as Atsushi cowered behind his menu. Kunikida sat calmly next to the boy, and [name] sat next to Kyouka.

Atsushi leaned over to Kunikida behind his menu. "Please..."

"I'm not paying." The blond said sternly, causing Atsushi to look over at [name].
