Chapter 9

It had been a month.

A month since Hyunjin disappeared, and a month since the messages included pictures, videos and audio files, only meant to bring Chan down.

It was 3 AM and he was watching TV. A sleepy Jeongin entered the room and sat down next to the tired Chan.

"What are you watching?"

"Oh, it's you, Jeonginie. You startled me." Chan smiled. "I'm watching a survey with trainees, about the systems in the K-Pop Industry. Hyunjin did the survey too."

Jeongin nodded and yawned. "Why are you still awake at this hour, hyung?", he asked and rubbed the sleep out of his eyes.

Chan pointed at his phone. Another message had come only an hour before, and Chan couldn't get Hyunjins screams out of his head. He had never wanted to hear such a scared and agony-filled scream in his life, especially not from someone close to him.

Jeongin nodded, climbing behind the older to backhug him. "Hyunjin is strong. We just have to find him."

Chans throat was dry, his voice hoarse when he answered: "He's being broken. He's breaking."

A sigh escaped the maknaes mouth, and then the phone vibrated again.

The message was from anonymous: "He said something today. Wanna hear?", with an audio file attached.

With a shaky breath the boy pressed play. Hyunjins voice sounded scared, hoarse and quiet. "Kami. Kami. Kami. Help me. Kami. Get Kami."

"Who is Kami?", Chan asked, and Jeongin whispered, "that's Hyunjins dog."

"Okay," Chan said during breakfast. "We want to get the dog."

"Who?", Jisung asked, his mouth full.

The members had different reactions to Hyunjins disappearance. While Seungmin stopped eating, Jisung ate way too much.

"Hyunjins dog, Kami. He asked for us to get it in the audio file I got today." Chan heaped food onto Seungmins plate and gave him a warning look, saying 'don't you dare not eat'.

"So.... you want us to get the dog and live in the dorms with him?", Felix asked, who was being fed by Changbin due to not yet healed wounds. "I'd like that, Kami is cute."

Seungmin nodded. "Jinnie really missed him while he was here..."

"So who's gonna get the dog? Someone Mrs. Hwang knows... Seungmin? You've visited Hyunjin pre-debut, right?"

Seungmin nodded again. He had been to Hyunjins apartment more than once because they were in the same class.

"I'll join you," Woojin said, "when do you want to leave?"

Seungmins hand was shaking when he rang the doorbell of the Hwang Household. It only took a few minutes before Mrs. Hwang opened the door.

They hadn't told anyone about the kidnapping of Hyunjin, except the police, who agreed on not telling the parents to prevent more accidents.

"Hello Seungminie," Mrs. Hwang greeted the younger, "It's so nice that you're visiting again. I've missed you..." She looked behind him and when she didn't see her son, she looked back at Seungmin,  a confused look on her face. "Where is Hyunjin?"

The singer didn't have an answer for that, but luckily, Woojin did.

"Hyunjin misses his dog so much, so we wanted to surprise him by bringing Kami to the dorms. Would that be okay with you, Mrs. Hwang?"
