A couple of weeks after the cold debacle, a new issue fell upon the Hopper/Byers household: nightmares. The couple had gotten into bed, where Joyce was reading Pride And Prejudice (for the fourth time), and Hopper was reading the news. Even though they had decided to put off a formal wedding for a bit, it didn't take long for them to fall into a nighttime routine just like they were already married. When the clock read ten-fifteen, they decided to turn off the lamps and sleep.
Three hours later
Will, Jonathan, and Eleven had disappeared into the Upside Down. One by one Joyce watched as they were slaughtered by the mysterious monster. Just as she heard a voice calling her name,
"Joyce... Joyce... Joyce!" She woke up. Hopper had her in his arms, running up and down her back as she cried.
"The-the kids, and you, and-and..."
"Shhhh... Joy everything is ok. The kids are ok, I'm ok, you're ok. We're never going back there again." He whispered. He hated the thought of her being scared or in pain. The rest of the night, Joyce spent the night in her fiancée's arms.

Meanwhile in Jonathan's bedroom, still awake, he heard soft footprints coming towards his room. They stopped for a minute before his door opened to a sleepy looking El standing in the doorway.
"Oh, uh, hey El, what's up?" He stuttered, sitting up in bed.
"Nightmare." She said softly.
"Oh um, wanna uh, talk about it?"
"No." She replied, sitting on his bed.
Just then, as if on cue, Will padded in.
"Nightmare?" He just nodded, sitting on the other side of Jonathan, who stood up.
"How about you guys sleep in here tonight, huh?" He asked while grabbing blankets from his closet. The pair nodded. He handed them each a blanket as they found spots on his bed to get relatively comfortable with three people. The two kids were asleep within ten minutes. Jonathan chuckled lightly as he began to drift off himself.
