BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, BEE-
"URGH!"
With an irate squeak, I slapped my palms together, clapping twice. The alarm stopped.
I haven't had that dream in months.
But I guess it couldn't be helped, seeing as our birthday was just around the corner. After all this time, I'd like to think I can handle most of what comes my way.
As I rolled out of my bed and onto the cold, hard floor beside it, I yawned and stretched, feeling my bones pop and crack they way I was used to.
I despised mornings more than anything.
"Will you be going to school today, Eveleah?"
"Yes."
"Okay, I will inform the staff to make you breakfast."
I shuffled my feet through the fluffy white carpet of my bedroom floor to carry myself into my bathroom.
"Cassy, turn on the bathroom." I croaked.
"Turning on the bathroom." Cassy replied in her robotic Australian voice.
Cassidy, or Cassy for short, was a smart artificial presence much like Alexa of Amazon or Siri of Apple. This was one of my Uncle's creations for his company- Aeri and Co.
I peered into my large vanity mirror, nearly having a heart attack. My hair was knotted to rival a fisherman's hook, my eyes looked like they belonged to a raccoon, and the remnants of my dreams were crusted in the corners of my eyes.
"You haven't had much sleep, as of late." Cassy observes. "You should play it down today."
I took her advice and quickly made myself look presentable- a black lace bralette, a gray wide-necked sweatshirt that went nearly to my knees, and comfortable black yoga pants.
I put my hair in a high pony tail and watched the strands of golden brown shine with the usual dark brown. I laced up my favorite gray platform shoes and grabbed my black tassle Vuitton bag- a gift from my best friend who should be here any second now...
I made my way down the stairs, smelling fresh pastries.
"Morning! I'm off!" I call out, grabbing my favourite muffin- chocolate chip- from the kitchen counter as I hurry outside, greeted with a familiar sight.
My best friend Dylan Tides- his light blonde hair was a mess, as usual. I smiled and ran down to him, jumping into his arms.
"Morning, Princessa!" He smiles.
And before you ask, no, the bag was not a gift from him, but my other really close friend.
"Where's Cora?" I ask him.
His smile drops.
"I... haven't heard from her in a bit."
My heart clenches for a moment, before I realize, she's not a part of... that world.
"Well, I'm sure whatever's happened can't be that bad."
"Yeah, let's go to the first day of Senior year!" He cheers and his bright smile returns.
I grin back at him and re-adjust my bag, before we start the twenty-minute walk to school.
When we finally arrive, I make my way to first period, which I have with Cora. Dylan has AP English Lit, while both Cora and I have Calculus BC.
I head straight to a table in the back where I see Cora invested deeply in her phone. Few other students are sprinkled about the room. I toss my bag into the seat next to us, and turn to her.
