When He Noticed Me

Chapter 13

Cora hadn't shown to any of the afternoon lectures, so I naturally assumed that she was still with Marcus in the infirmary.

It'd been somewhat of a long day. Fed up with everything, really life in general, I stomped to the parking lot and waited for Devyn, who had yet to arrive.

I simply pulled out my phone, opening instagram, and flicked through my explore page- riddled left and right with Klance/Leakira fan art, and edits.

Not long after, Devyn appeared.

"Hey Moonbeam, how were afternoon classes?" He asked, sliding into the driver's seat.

"They were alright," I replied. "It was good of you and Zach to stand up for Marcus." I mumbled, my way of thanking him.

He glanced over fleetingly, before concentrating once more on the street.

"No biggie. I hate bullying, and I couldn't stand watching Link suffer. Zach too."

"I saw Lincoln's reaction," I pondered slowly. "It's almost as if he was in physical pain. What was with that?"

"Well, Link was bullied at his old school, it's why he transferred. He didn't have many friends. His 'ex' cheated on him with the person that tormented him regularly, and then they made the breakup a public scandal. He joined water polo, trained constantly, and bulked up, swearing he wouldn't let anyone bully him again. We did it for Link, and for Marcus. And because Asher's an asshole, and I don't want him on my team."

I nodded, filing this information away in my brain.

"Did..." He paused, causing me to turn to him and raise a brow. "Did he flirt with you? I couldn't hear your guys' conversation, but it looked like he was undressing you with his eyes."

"He's seen the majority of me nude, having almost become my boyfriend." I shrugged.

Devyn slams on the breaks, the tires squealing defiantly. His face showed betrayal, surprise and a few other things- I couldn't quite pick them apart.

"He was your what?" He demands loudly.

However, I was on an entirely different issue.

"Are you blubbering insane? Why would you just break like that in the middle of the street! That could have gotten us rear-ended, or worst case scenario, have started a pile-up!" I scream, batting at him, hard.

The seatbelt had automatically tightened, digging painfully into the side of my neck and diagonally across my collarbone, to my chest.

"Ow!" He complained, after I had started to calm down, riling me back up.

"Ow? Ow? OW?" I start screaming again, flicking my hair out of the way and jerking down the collar of my outfit, to show him the cutting, red line, already bruising.

Reluctantly, he revved the engine and started driving again.

"So, Asher was your boyfriend?" He asked, sounding too nonchalant for my liking.

"Yeah, I think so. But he cheated on me, and I broke it off. Whatever we were, it's over now." I spoke shortly.

He seemed to relax in his seat as soon as I mentioned that I was the one who had ended things.

"Then, are you interested in somebody right now?" He asked me, smirking once more.

"Well," I say, dragging the word out. "There might be someone..." I replied teasingly. 

He narrowed his eyes at me, gears whirring in his brain.

"You and Zach got close in the park, did you not?" He asked, voice just the teeniest bit strained. 

And all at once, hardly anything was left of his relaxed posture a few minutes prior. He looked at me almost expectantly, as he came to a halt in front of my house, waiting for some sort of response, or possibly- denial. 

Did I detect a tad of jealousy, as well?

I smirked, slowly unbuckling my seat belt.

"Thanks for the ride, as always. I'll be seeing you tomorrow!" I hopped out of the car, before he could stop me to demand an answer to his question. 

Pleased, I hurried through the gate of my driveway. 

He was still parked in front of my house, and I could see him shaking his head, before speeding off.

A bit of jealousy couldn't hurt anyone.
