It was Christmas morning. The excited 16 year old girl with Ice blue eyes and fiery red locks bounced up and down at the top of the stairs with her younger brother, Alec. He was only 4 years younger than her, but she still treated him as if he was a much smaller child. As her parents called up the stairs for the children to come and enter the den to open presents, Alec darted down the stairs with Chloe yelling at him in concern to be careful. In an instant, however, she too was bounding down the stairs with glee. She ran into the living room to find a giant blue teddy bear with a bright green bow tie and a large tag with her name on it, sitting in her favorite chair. She was joyful as all get out because she loved soft, cuddly teddy bears and, even though she was 16, she knew he would get a lot of love from her. She ran to the bear and tackled it into a hug. She felt something fall off of the bear's lap and hit her leg.
She looked down and discovered a small rectangular box. She picked it up and looked at her parents in wonder. They smiled and gave her a nod that said "Open it, Chloe, open it!" The girl carefully opened the box to find tissue paper. She carefully took the tissue out to reveal a necklace with a silver heart and a laminated note. The gift of love is something great, but there's another clue at the back gate.
The girl quickly put the necklace on and ran to the door. She slid on her shoes and took off to the gate where she found a pink hat and another note. 'Curiosity killed the cat,' but in this case it leads you to the welcome mat.
She ran back into the house and to the front door. She flung it open and carefully stepped over the mat, in case there was something very valuable hidden under it. She slowly lifted the mat to reveal a CD case that had the word 'open' written on the front. She did just that and saw it was an Ace of Bass CD as another note fell out. Go back to where you would say "Opened up my eyes"
The thin 16 year old ran back inside closing the door and throwing her shoes off. She bounded up the stairs two at a time and heard her brother call out "be careful" in a mocking tone. She ran into her room and on her bed, laid a box. On it, a note that said take me to the den and this will come to an end.
She ran back downstairs and into the den and showed it to her parents. They gave her an encouraging grin to tell her to open it. She carefully undid the ribbon and slowly opened the box. Under a bunch of tissue paper and confetti, she found a key.
A key?? A KEY?! She looked at her parents, wide eyed to see them stand up and grab her by the hand. They led her to the garage door and opened it slowly. The girl peaked into the dark room that smelled of old books and other forgotten things. Her father flipped the light switch and a white car with a big red bow was sitting in the garage.
Chloe screamed in excitement and started crying as she hugged her parents. She was yelling 'Thank You' repeatedly and jumping up and down. She ran to the car to inspect it and opened the door and climbed in. The new car smell enveloped her and she felt the happiest she had since finding out she was going to have a little brother.
