When Chloe finished her shower, she stepped out and dried off. She put on her clothes and began to blow dry her hair. When she was finished, she looked into the mirror to see that just a tiny bit of her color had come back to her face, eyes, and hair. She decided to take a look outside so she walked to her front door. This would be a big step forward. She hadn't seen anyone in months, let alone felt the sun on her body. She slowly opened the door and felt the fresh air hit her. It was warm and inviting and she knew she needed to do this. She stepped out of her front door and down the stairs into her overgrown lawn.
The feel of her bare feet on the grass reminded her of how much she used to love being outside. But this felt different. Though she was reminded of the joy, she didn't feel it now. Though the sun and fresh air was inviting from her door, it felt as though it hated her. She looked around for a few minutes, observing all that was going on.
That was when she discovered the blonde woman standing by the gate of her house looking at the redhead in awe. Though she gave up going to the door, Aubrey had continued to walk by the house everyday, just in case something like this would happen.
"Chloe?" The woman choke out, "is that... really you?" Chloe nodded in response, not really believing it herself either, if she was being honest. The blonde came running up to her and she realized that it was Aubrey. Aubrey Swanson. Her uptight, Aca-nazi, Bella best friend.
Aubrey hugged Chloe, crying, saying she never thought she would ever see her again. And that was when Chloe knew that going outside was a mistake.
"I have to leave Bree," Chloe said flatly.
"What?? But you just came back?" The woman pulled herself off of Chloe, leaving her hands on her shoulders and looking her in the eyes.
"I can't stay Bree. I shouldn't have come back." Chloe tried to pull away but Aubrey wouldn't let her.
"Chloe Mitchell-Beale. You have been locked away in that damn house all by yourself for SIX MONTHS and you finally come out just to say you have to go back?" Aubrey was furious. She wasn't angry at Chloe, she was angry because she couldn't understand Chloe. She couldn't understand her best friend and it was scary to her.
"Yes, Aubrey. I did. I'm sorry. And tell the others I'm sorry too, but I have to. I had to see if I could handle it one last time, but I can't. And I need you to respect that. I need you to let me go," she whispered the last sentence, and with it, Chloe hugged her former best friend farewell for the last time. She let go of the blonde and looked at her face one last time. She wiped away the tears that had fallen from her friend's eyes and kissed her forehead and turned around and walked back inside. She locked the door and went to the office. She grabbed a piece of paper and pen and began to write a note.
