When the ceremony started, I
couldn't take my eyes off of America. Even when the loud music played and the flowers were thrown and everything in the room was big and loud and beautiful, the simple beauty of my soon-to-be-wife was enough for me. When the pastor began speaking, I had to take a deep breath just to calm myself down; I was so overwhelmed and excited by this whole thing. Finally, he asked, "Do you, Maxon Schreave, take America for your lawful wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do you part?"I had never really listened to
the specifics of a wedding before, but the words were beautiful. It was almost as if I was only hearing them for the first time. It was something that one couldn't realize without being truly in love. This was something I wanted more than anything in the world, and for once, there was nothing holding me back from America. Not any secrets or hidden feelings we'd kept from each other, not my father, not the other girls, not anyone in the country's opinions. I was ready to give all of myself to her. I wanted to make this promise.I smiled huge, and taking a
deep breath I confidently recited, "I do." America's grin grew bigger than I'd ever seen it before, and she tightened her grip on my hands. The pastor continued, "Do you, America Singer, take His Majesty Maxon for your lawful husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do you part?"America looked me directly in
the eyes. "I do." I wanted to scoop her into my arms and jump for joy right there. We were getting married! This was the most exciting thing in my life, but I smiled calmly through it like my parents had always taught me. I liked to think that if they were here right now, seeing how in love we were, that they would support me choosing America. I knew I would have had my mother's support no matter what, but dad? I wasn't sure. That didn't matter though, not anymore. This was my choice and I had made a great one. A perfect one.
