As soon as Abbie was hit, Josh called the paramedics. They arrived on site, pulling out a gurney, and a breathing mask. Josh was sitting with Abbie, her lying on the pavement, blood everywhere. The driver wasn't too injured, just bumped his head on the steering wheel. Josh refused to talk to him, because he was too busy trying to keep Abbie conscious. Her eye lids keep on fluttering like mad, her breathing keeps on getting shallower, and she's turning very pale.
When Josh sees the medics, he starts motioning them over, not even thinking about leaving Abbie's side. They run over, and start assessing. Josh explains everything that happened, and stays out of their way as they do their work.
"Son, she's in critical condition, but she should be fine. You should call her family." instructs the one paramedic.
"Her family is all back in Canada, and they haven't kept in contact." Josh replies emotionless.
"Well, you can't be the only one who loves her." he says, as he climbs into the back of the ambulance.
"I would ask you to ride with us, but there is no room, and we will need to prepare her for surgery now. You can follow behind in your vehicle."
Josh nods, than hops into his car. He doesn't have the guts to call Brea. Brea and Abbie's friendship is the strongest he has ever seen. And Brea doesn't take bad news well. He'll need someone else to do it.
The first person Josh calls is Niall. He may not like girls, but he loves Abbie. After his quick conversation with Niall, the final noise being Niall's heart wrenching sob, he keeps focused on the ambulance. His entire world is sitting in fates hands. Josh thinks back to a simple night last month, but something that will shine bright in his mind forever.
"Josh, what do you want to do tonight?" Abbie asks.
"I'm in the mood to stay home." Josh answers, seating himself beside Abbie on her couch. They have separate houses, but they are almost always at Abbie. Josh is planning on moving in soon anyways, as soon as he is done school.
"But what do you want to do?" she presses further.
"What do you have in mind?"
At that moment, Abbie leans over and closes the distance between their lips. Josh moves over, so Abbie lying on top of him. They stay like this for a while, lips interlocked, until Abbie starts pulling on Josh's shirt. She unbuttons it slowly as first, fingers slipping. But then she rips the whole thing off, leaving is lying on the floor
"Now what was that for?" Josh mumbles against her lips.
"The same reason this is for." Abbie answers as she pulls off her own shirt. "If you catch my drift."
And Josh definitely caught her drift. He picks up Abbie, and carries her into her bedroom. She continues to remove clothing, until they are both so deeply in the moment.
And in that moment, Josh realizes that not only is he one of the luckiest men in the world, but that she is the only one for him. He has never allowed himself to go this far with a girl, and she has never allowed herself to get this far with a boy. They now belonged to each other, and they always would.
Josh lets out a long sigh, thinking back to that moment. Every second longer he spends away from Abbie felt like a twist of the knife in his heart.
When they get to the hospital, Abbie is pulled out of the ambulance and into the building in a matter of seconds. Josh has to run to keep up with them.
"Son, I'm sorry, she's going straight into surgery. Wait out here, I'll find you after she's out." shouts the same paramedic from before.
Josh slides into the nearest chair, and watches Abbie roll away.
