I ignored the thumps coming from downstairs. I ignored the loud squeaks that most likely came from one of the men. I ignored the shattering glass I heard as soon as I turn on the third floor. I ignored it all.But what I couldn't ignore was the tall shadow that ran pass on the third floor. Way too big to be a kids shadow, and way to broad. Then again maybe it's because of the distance of the kids. You know; the farther you are the taller the shadow.
As I crept upstairs as secretly as possible, I hoped and prayed it was just the kids in the hallways. Defenseless and injured, I wouldn't be able to fight off anybody. Oh, who am I kidding? These men were the size of towers! I wouldn't be able to fight them off fully strengthened.
Gulping down the fear that crept up my throat, I finished my journey up the flight of steps. With little to no time, I couldn't bend over to catch my breath. Had to stay on alert just in case someone else was up here and tried to push me back down.
Tip toeing to the nearest room, I peaked in to see if the kids were in there. No signs of them. This process continued for the next three doors and I was starting to worry. I've called out to them after every door I opened and no response. But giving up wasn't an option. They had to be up here.
"Did it not -" I screeched and jumped ten feet in the air. Away from the voice that came from directly behind me. It took everything in me not to allow my heart to fail. " - occur to you to look in the opposing direction?"
Sending a nasty glare at the grey eyed brute in front of me, "You can't just sneak up on people like that, Leo!" I seethed, pushing passed him in the hall. Suddenly feeling safer then ever.
"You would be the worst spy in world history. Did you not hear the floors screaming under your feet?" Even without looking at him, I somehow knew he was crossing his arms over his chest. "You mindless well have stomped up the damn steps, and warned all the Fussians you were coming!"
"What the hell is a Fuss -"
"Fucking Russians!" He barks, throwing his hands in the air dramatically. What's up his ass? Isn't this type of stuff normal for him? I should be the one screaming, not him!
"Well.. then, why the hell are you yelling?!" I found myself yelling in return. If the Fussians didn't hear the cries of the floor, then they sure as hell heard us.
"I never said that there was actually Russians up here," He growls, pushing pass me now and walking into a room I had not checked. "But you didn't know that at first, big foot."
I wanted so badly to push him down the flight of stairs. It would make me happy for all of five minutes, but that's all I need. The guilt that would follow will just have to eat away at me.
Instead of actually following through with my plans I just glared at him. He bent over for something under the bed acting totally unaffected by my steak cutting stare.
"Remove the stink stick out your ass because I did nothing to you!" Was all that was said before I finally spotted the reason for my existence.
Leo turned around to face me and revealed a sleeping Jazzy. Soft snores filled the silence as I stared at her in amazement. How the men hadn't managed to find her under the bed was beyond me, but I wasn't going to dwell on it. She was unharmed and that was all I was worried about.
"Crying tends to put kids to sleep, I see." Leo says almost to himself. He walked over to me and gave me Jazzy before walking back over to the bed. I'd almost forgot there was another kid. I felt horrible that it had slipped my mind, but they both were okay. Not a scratch on their pretty, clear skin.
