Sally was worried. Bilbo had been down in the coin room for hours. They had heard no sounds, but there was the occasional rumble from deep inside the earth.
"Thorin! We must go see if he is still alive." She was tugging on the sleeve of his coat. "Why didn't you send me?"
"The dragon Smaug is familiar with the smell of dwarf, he will be all but unfamiliar with the smell of hobbit."
Sally fixed him with a glare. "And?"
"Miss Sally, he will be fine." He fixed her with a smile and caressed her arm. "Our hobbit is very astute; he will be careful."
Sally stomped away from him, "I'm going to see what is happening!"
Before she got 10 feet away Thorin grasped her arm and spun her around, "I forbid it!"
"You forbid it?" Sally laughed. "You can't stop me."
He gave her a gentle shake, "I told you this was my mountain." He took hold of her other arm, tugging her as he moved backward to a sheltered part of the plateau, "I will not have you traipsing about, getting into trouble."
Sally sputtered, "Trouble? Me? I hardly think so." She tried to pull her arm away. "Now let me go!"
Thorin pulled her closer to him, "No, amrâlimê." He ran a finger down her cheek.
Sally was lost in his eyes. She felt safe in his grasp and knew no harm would come to her here. Her face softened and she said, "Thorin, I do know what that means." Thorin blushed as she continued, "My love. Is it true?"
"Mahal, Sally! I don't know what to do with you!"
"I have an idea." Sally raised herself onto her toes and slipped her hands around, under his hair, to the back of his neck. She bit her lip and Thorin growled before taking her lips with his. Thorin nipped at her lips in an attempt to open her mouth further. When it didn't work he moved his hands from her arms to wrap around her waist, lifting her from the ground. She gasped and he took the opportunity. He ran his tongue along her bottom lip before slipping it inside her mouth. Sally felt a rush of warmth down her spine and matched his actions.
Thorin growled deep in his throat and stepped to the closest wall. He used that as a brace to hold Sally up and ran his hands down the sides of her body; he cupped her ass and hoisted her higher. His kiss got bolder; he thrust his tongue further into her mouth, teasing her own to response. Sally grabbed a handful of his hair and pulled steadily.
Thorin immediately felt heat pooling in his groin. He pulled his mouth from hers, panting, "We need to stop!" He kissed her again, ever so briefly, "I won't be able to stop if we don't now."
She looked at him, she felt like love was radiating from her. "You are probably right," she ran her hand through his glorious hair, "I don't want to, but you are right."
He lowered her to the ground but did not loosen his hold on her. As he brushed his hand through her hair the ground shook. They both rushed back to doorway.
Bofur exclaimed, "Is that an earthquake?"
"No-o, my lad," Balin looked frightened. "That is a dragon."
Sally ran through the doorway yelling, "Bilbo! Bilbo!"
Thorin ran after her. He found her with Bilbo, who was panting and sweating. The hallway was as hot as an inferno. "Bilbo, you're alive! Did you find the Arkenstone?"
Bilbo said, "No time, he is coming!"
"The Arkenstone!" Thorin shouted, "Did you find it?"
Sally turned on him, "Thorin!" Sarcastically she said, "There is a dragon coming."
