"Stop the car, Eden!" Marley cried, her panic rising with every breath.
Eden's grip on the steering wheel tightened as he heard her. For a moment he thought over his actions. Was he doing it the right way? He was scaring her, and it was the last thing he intended.
Still, it had to be done, because if he waited any longer it wouldn't end well for either of them. Eden had wanted to take it slow but his wolf was getting restless and craved for his mate's affection.
It has to be done... With that on his mind, he paddled on the accelerator.
When Marley realized her cries were falling on deaf ears, she shut her mouth and focused on calming herself instead. Nothing good would come with panicking, she needed to think rationally and get herself out of this mess.
Marley looked outside the car windows, hoping to find other vehicles on the street—but no such luck. Instead her anxiety increased tenfolds once she saw they were heading toward the woods. This was enough to spiral her mind back to panicking, thinking about all the horrible things that could be done to her there.
"E-Eden, why are we here? Please just take me home," she pleaded once again, her voice trembling. "P-please."
Marley didn't expect an answer from him. Her hands discreetly reached for her phone inside her jeans pocket.
She thought about dialing the emergency number but couldn't bring herself to do so. It didn't feel right, seemed a bit extreme. So, she settled for Mrs. Sherman in her contact list.
Out of nowhere, her cell phone was snatched out of her hand.
"Almost forgot, thanks for reminding. Don't want you taking photos," Eden said nonchalantly, his eyes still on the road as he threw her phone to the backseat.
"I'll return it. Marley, don't worry, I'm not going to hurt you. Just trust me." He turned to look at her, his eyes holding sincerity and begging her to believe him.
Marley took a deep breath before nodding reluctantly. Somehow, his words had managed to calm her and tranced her into trusting him. But her guards were still up.
About 15 minutes later, the car stopped and Eden unlocked the doors. For a second, Marley was tempted to burst open the car door and run into the woods as far as her legs would take her, but she stayed glued to her seat.
As crazy as it might sound, Marley trusted her captor. She mentally cursed herself for her naivety.
"You okay?" The silence between them ceased. Eden locked his brown eyes with her dark ones.
Marley quickly looked away. She masked her face with anger, not wanting to give him the satisfaction of knowing that she indeed felt okay.
"Let's walk. I promise everything's going to be fine," Eden reassured her, before getting out of the car. He walked over to her side and opened the car door.
She hesitated a moment before coming out.
Eden held her hand, allowing familiar tingles to flow through their bodies. She tried to get out of his hold but gave in when she felt calmness descending upon her due to their touch.
Eden held back a grin, knowing that his mate was unconsciously giving into their bond. He led her into the deeper parts of the woods. Throughout their small trek, he kept talking to her, trying to ease her, but his mate remained mute.
They stopped at a small clearing. Marley's eyes moved around taking in the nature—the large trees surrounding them, the small lake that almost looked like a large mirror, and flowers blooming on the ground underneath her feet. It was breathtaking.
"It can be a great picnic spot," Eden commented as he noticed her looking around. When Marley didn't reply, he shook his head at her stubbornness.
"Marley," Eden spoke again. This time his voice shook and caught Marley's immediate attention. "I—uh—do you believe—I am a werewolf." He shouted out the last part in frustration.
"Huh?"
Eden let out a frustrated growl and repeated. "I am a werewolf."
For a minute Marley stood there with a blank expression, until slowly it contoured into anger.
"So you dragged me here, in the middle of woods to play some dumb prank on me," she accused. She expected his friends to come out of the bushes and laugh at her.
"I know you won't believe me if I just told you. It was just a heads up," Eden said as though stating a fact. "But whatever happens just trust me I won't hurt you." With that, he started taking off his shirt.
"What are you doing? Stop that," she spluttered, too flustered to take note of his naked torso.
When he started unbuttoning his jeans, she turned around. Eden chuckled at her reaction. "No need to shy away baby. Soon, you are going to see all of this a lot," he teased her.
"Shut up and put on your—" she heard a snapping sound. Then another. A series of snaps followed.
When Marley turned around, her mouth hung open seeing the sight in front of her. In Eden's place stood a wolf. A ginormous brown-colored wolf.
She stood there frozen, taking in its appearance. She knew that it wasn't just any wild animal—its gigantic size didn't leave any possibility to consider that.
The wolf slowly took a step forward, and when Marley didn't move, it continued.
Marley recognized those chocolate brown eyes, discerning who it really was.
"E-Eden?" She gulped, shocked.
The wolf moved its head up and down as though nodding. It stalked closer and sat down on his belly, signaling her to caress him.
When she didn't move, he gently tucked his nose under her small palm.
"Oh."
It seemed as though Marley wasn't in control of her actions anymore. Without thinking, she ran her hand through his fur.
As she moved her fingers through those brown strands, she couldn't help but notice how silky and soft they were, like feathers.
"Wow..."
