Marley stood at the threshold of a small room, located at the isolated corner of Odis' mansion. No other being was around except Kyle, who was rambling beside her—something about the movie Twilight and how the knights and Edward Cullen were a lot alike.
But Marley was afraid. She was going to be in the same room with the two vampires, alone. And no one was around to help her if all this went downhill.
Kyle pushed open the door revealing Iosif, whose gaze was down, his mind deep in thoughts. He looked up hearing the creaking sound of the old wood.
Marley walked into the room, and Kyle followed behind after shutting the door.
"My apologies, if this arrangement seems suspicious to you," Iosif began, his blue eyes studying the scared girl. "Don't be afraid. We mean no harm."
"Yeah, who'll want to face that angsty mate of yours?!" Kyle chimed in with a snort.
"Why am I here?" Asked Marley, eyeing the other two cautiously.
"We have something to discuss with you," Iosif replied, "It's better if others don't hear of it, although I think Jared already knows about it... But we'll deal with him later."
"About what?"
The knight sighed, his calculative face turning soft. "I'm sure Odis must've told you his reasons for keeping you here."
Marley, with a slight hesitation, nodded.
"Odis' way of doing things was wrong. He shouldn't have abducted you... but his reasons were right." Iosif gave a quick glance to Kyle, who stood silently, before turning back to the human girl.
"Marley, my brother is out for all of us. He is a force to be reckoned with. He's determined on establishing the centuries-old abandoned order. He wants to rule over all of us, just like the werewolves used to rule over humans."
"So, you want me to help you," Marley concluded.
Iosif nodded.
"Do I have a choice?"
"Of course, you do. I'm not Odis," Iosif spoke immediately, "but before you give me your answer, you should know something."
Marley's brows furrowed.
"Your pack will also be fighting with us against Dimitri."
The dread filled Marley. No! Her mate and pack shouldn't be getting entangled into this madness. Weren't humans capable to fend for themselves? Didn't they have modern weaponry?
"If you don't want to do it for strangers who nabbed you, do it for your mate. Not only for your mate, but for everyone. For your fellow humans too."
Marley stared at him dumbfounded.
"The world ruled by my brother-in-law is not going to be pretty," Kyle added, "no pressure or anything but the world's peace kind of hangs on your shoulder."
"Why?" Finally, Marley whispered to herself. Why was this all happening to her?! Why was this all happening now?!
Both the knights pitied her. But it had to be done. She was now their last hope.
"One thing more," Iosif said, breaking the silence. "It'll be better if you keep this from your mate."
"And why would I do that?!" Marley glared at the white-haired knight.
