Remember

My dad used to always tell me "time doesn't wait for anyone. It doesn't wait for you, it never will." Why does this come to mind? I don't know, it's just one of those things that stay with you forever.

I stare up at the ceiling wall, my hands crossed over my chest, my head resting comfortably on my pillow. Life is passing by slowly but steadily and here I am, a 17 year-old boy laying in his bed on a Saturday morning. What's the difference? I've been living a great life: a happy family, working parents, (small) group of friends, a car, internet, tv, a job and just what a regular teen would have.

My job. I groaned as I remembered I had to work today. I worked in a small cafe only a couple of blocks away. I roll out of bed unwillingly, mumbling under my breath. "Time doesn't wait for anyone" my fathers words echo in my head and I sigh, hastily getting dressed.

"Thanks for keeping me company," I say to Axel.

"No problem James," he says winking.

I roll my eyes and continue cleaning the counter.

"Are you sure you don't have some eye disease, because man every time I look at you, all you do is roll your eyes," Axel says chuckling.

"Your lucky that's all I do," I say scowling.

"Is that a challenge? You wanna fight the Axe?!" He says standing up.

"The Axe?" I ask, snorting.

"Laugh all you want, you know I'm better and stronger then you, Prince James, honestly your name sounds like some prince who stares at his shoe collection all day," Axel says snickering.

"It's JT," I say gritting my teeth.

"Whatever, your highness," he says mocking a bow.

"Asshole," I mutter, throwing the dirty rag at him.

Just then the bell rings, indicating someone has entered the shop, a shocker. Turns out it's just my co-worker Mia.

She walks by, her strawberry-blonde hair in a messy bun, her hands fumbling with her phone as she ties her apron on.

"Sorry I'm late," she breathes.

"It's cool, it's not like there's anyone here anyways," I say, sighing.

She walks into the back and as soon as she leaves, I hear Axel clear his throat.

"Um dude, what the hell, your co-worker is fucking gorgeous. Why didn't you tell me you were working with a hottie. Im surprised you walk home all composed," he says.

"Um...right," I say, uncertainly.

"Dude sometimes I think your blind, I point all these girls out to you and all you can say is 'oh i didn't notice' or 'oh really?' Open your eyes your 17 and you haven't had a single crush or been interested in dating. What's up man?You swing for the same team or something?" he says snickering.

I stare at him. It shouldn't bother me. The comment means nothing, it's Axel, he's purely composed of comedy. A strange feeling blooms deep within and I can't shake it. Something in the back of my mind is nagging at me, but I ignore it.

"Chill man! It was a joke, your scaring me right now, what's up with you? C'mon JT don't take it so personal!" Axel says.

"Sure...sure..yeah," I say distracted. My mind is swirling with questions.

I remember.

I always blew it off but...now I'm not a naive little boy anymore. Why did the world suddenly look...different.
