Chapter 16

SUNNY

I sat in my bed and just cried. I never cried more than I have cried right now. I did indeed have stomach cancer. I was going to have to start chemo and get the surgery. I was just sad that I had to go through this. My mom, brothers, and my girlfriend was going to be behind me the whole step of the way.

CALLIE

Flashback

Sunny's mom shock the doctors hand and Sunny and I just sat there. After hearing what the doctor just said. We just couldn't get up. I held unto her hands for dear life. She looked at me and I just kissed her cheek. We got up out the office and I held her hand still as we walked out the doctors office. Her brothers just hugged her after their mother told them what the doctor said. We walked out to the car and Sunny and I got in the back. She laid her head in my lap and closed her eyes. I just sat there and prayed that to whoever was listening that I didn't lose my girlfriend. I laid in my bed and I couldn't help the tears that were coming down my eyes. I heard someone coming up the stairs and I looked at my door and Stef was standing there and she saw me. The tears started to come harder and Stef laid on my bed and wrapped her arms around me. I just cried in her shoulders and she just soothed me and told me everything was going to be alright. This is just what I needed to be in my mothers arms.

NEXT WEEK

I was helping Jude with his homework since Lena had to stay late at the school. I went upstairs to his room to get his colored pencils and an extra notebook for him. When I went in his room I looked out his window and I saw Sunny outside shooting hoops in Jesus's basketball hoop. Sunny and her family did not have a backyard big enough so she often shoot hoop in Jesus's. I still was not allowed to see Sunny and I really missed her. I could see the sadness and worry in her eyes. I knew she already started her chemo. I knew her life was about to turn upside down. When she made a shoot she started dribbling the ball and made another shoot. I made a decision and knocked on the window as loud as I could. She stopped with the basketball and was looking around. She looked so confused. I knocked on the window again and she looked up and when she saw me a smile came right upon her face. I smiled back and just stared at her. I blew a kiss at her and she blew me one back. I made her a heart shape sign with my fingers and she made me one back. She mouthed I loved you and I just smiled at her and blew her another kiss. I still couldn't tell her I loved her yet. I saw Lena's car pull up in the driveway so I moved a little to the side so Lena wouldn't see me. Sunny saw her and she waved at Lena and Lena waved back. Lena said something to Sunny and they talked for about 5 minutes until Lena came in the house. So I rushed back downstairs to meet Jude. Later on that day I was sitting in the backyard playing on my guitar. When I looked up Lena and Stef were standing and smiling at me. "You are starting to sound real good love," Stef said to me. "Well this is all I have to do lately, so I hope I sound good," I said to my moms. "Your mother and I wanted to talk to you," Lena said with her and Stef sitting next to me. "So, we decided to let you see Sunny, we realized that it was wrong to keep you away from her. But you are only allowed to see her for an hour a day, and she is to come over here and you two are only allowed to stay in the kitchen or another common area. This is only until the month is over of your grounding," Stef said sternly but kindly. "So I am still grounded," I asked them just to be clear. "Yes, you are still grounded, you can have your cell phone back, but no computer, and you are still to come straight home after school. And no dates with Sunny, do I make myself clear," Stef asked me. "Yes, so can I go see my girlfriend now. I get my hour until it is time for me to go to sleep," I asked them.
'Yes you can, you need to be in that living room or outside," Lena said to me as I ran out the house. I knocked on Sunny's door and her mother answered.
"Hi Ms. Paola, is Sunny here," I asked her. "And I am allowed to be here." She smiled at me and yelled for Sunny to come down. Sunny saw me and she stopped in her tracks and I saw her start to tear up. She ran to me as fast as she could and gave me the biggest hug that she could give me. I hugged her back and I started to cry again too. She looked at me and gave me big kiss on my lips. "Callie, I love you so much," she said to me and when I looked in her eyes I saw nothing but love. "I love you too Sunny," I said to her and she smiled widely at me and we hugged again.
