CALLIE

It has been 2 months and Sunny was getting worse and worse. She stopped going to school and all she did was rest up at home unless she was going to chemo. I went with her to her last chemo treatment and she looked so lost and out of place in there. Everyone that was in there was twice her age. When I got out of school, I went to her house like I do everyday when I get out of school to check up on her. "I knocked on the door, and her mom answered the door. I wonder why she was was home, her mom is never home during this time of the day she was always at work. "Hey Ms. Paola, you took off work today," I asked her. "Yes, her brother Manuel couldn't stay home with her today," so I have to stay with her today. Do you mind staying here while I run to the pharmacy to get her prescription before they close," she asked me sounding desperate. "Yea sure," I said giving her mom a hug and she winked a me. I walked upstairs to Sunny's room and she was laying in bed. Her eyes were closed, so she must be sleeping. She looked so not herself. Her hair was starting to fall off, her skin was dry and pale and she was really skinny. "Babe," I said to her walking up to her bed. I dropped my stuff on the floor and took my shoes off and climbed into bed with her. She didn't open her eyes, but she grabbed my hand and I knew she knows that I am here with her. "You feeling ok today," I asked her and she nodded to me and blew her breath. "Have you eaten today," I asked her and she shook her no. "You have to eat," I said to her. "I know, just don't have an appetite," she said to me grabbing my hand harder. I rubbed my thumb up and down her hand. "Can you eat for me please," I said to her kissing her cheek. "Ugh, I hate it when you say that because you know I will do anything for you," she said cracking a small smile. "You can eat something small, how about yogurt or a banana," I suggested to her. She blew her breath and looked at me and I found myself getting lost in her eyes. "The only thing I want for you to do is kiss me," she said. I smiled at her and placed a small kiss to her brittle lips. I kissed her again and I let it linger for awhile. "I love you so much babe," she said to me. "I love you too," I said to her. I went downstairs to her kitchen, and got her a banana. I brought it to her and she ate it in small bites. She got to about half the banana and she immediately threw up the banana all over herself and her bed. "Oh no," she said sounding embarrassed. "Aw it's ok babe, it really is, we will get you all cleaned up and change your bedsheets," I said to her and she started crying. "I really don't want you to see me like this, I love you Callie with every thing in me but I want you to remember me the way I am. Not like this," she said to me. "Sunny, I love you I am not leaving your side. I would never do that. You do not have to fight this alone," I said to her. She started crying again and she looked away from me. "Can you just help me clean this mess up and I want you to leave, and please don't come back here, I will call you and text you if I am up to it," she said crying. "Sunny, I am not doing that. You can't make me do that." "Callie please do it for me, please I don't want you too see me like this. It is not how I want you to remember me. "Baby, you are going to fight this, you can't give up on me," I said to her tears streaming down my eyes. "I have stomach cancer, nobody my age has this. If they do they barely live past 3 months. Nobody with stomach cancer survives. It is sad but the truth. I want you to remember me with the happy moments we had, not memories of me dying." "Sunny, I love you," I need to be here for you." "OK, and you still can be, but from a distance. matter of fact can you leave now. My mom can clean this mess up," she said to me. "Sunny I'm.." "LEAVE," she said pointing toward the door. I just stood there and looked at her and she was crying and I was crying I couldn't even see straight. I just grabbed my stuff. I didn't even bother to put my shoes on. I ran across the street to my house. I opened and slammed the door. I heard somebody in the kitchen and they came to the door. "Callie," Stef said looking at me. "Are you ok," she asked with worry and concern. I couldn't even say anything to her, I just kept crying. "Callie, talk to me love," she said grabbing my face and drying my tears. "She said she doesn't want me around, I love her i need to be near her she... I couldn't even finish my sentence I was beyond crying. Stef grabbed me in her arms and I cried in her arms like my life depended on it. She whispered it was ok and she was here. I just couldn't do anything but cry.

Later that night I laid on the couch watching TV drinking a cup of coffee, Stef let me have a cup only for tonight, she made me one before she went to sleep. It was about 11 when I heard a knock at the door. I muted the TV and looked at the peep hole. I did not expect to see my girlfriend standing their. I immediately opened the door and she stood there tear stains in her eyes looking very fragile. "Aww honey, what are doing out here its chilly, you should not be outside." "I know i had to see you though. I love you Callie," she said coughing and shivering. "Ok, come in though please. I can call your mom so she can come get you." "No, I can walk back by myself I am tired of people caring for me," she said coughing some more. "Sunny please, come inside. You can stay here for the night." She started to walk but she started coughing some more and the coughing was getting more severe. She coughed her eyes went to the back of her head and she passed out face forward. "SUNNY," I yelled. "MOMSSSS !" I yelled louder. "HELPPP," I yelled my voice cracking from crying now. "Baby please wake up, please," I said kneeling my face towards her and crying on her neck.
