A soft wind blew through the tops of the oaks above you, creaking with the movement. Even farther up, StarClan warriors glittered brightly, which reflected onto the lake, causing it to look like a pool of stars.

You lay on the lakeshore quietly, your head on your paws. It was a cool newleaf night—if newleaf could even be cool. Prey was running well in the Clan. ThunderClan was thriving.

You closed your eyes, letting the breeze run through your (O.C. Fur) pelt. The only sounds were the creaking oaks and lapping water.

Momentarily, you wondered if you should go back to camp so nobody would worry. No, you shook your head. If they care, they'll come and find me. With one last glance at the lake, you slowly drifted into dreamless sleep.

You awoke suddenly, a strange sound coming from behind you. Jerking your head up, you sniffed the air cautiously. You almost froze when you realized what it was.

Badger! You scolded yourself silently. This is why you sleep at camp, you featherbrain!

You desperately searched for somewhere to hide, but this close to the lake there were only trees. Hiding in any bushes or undergrowth would mean running towards the badger, and that was a risky move. Hesitantly, you scrambled to hide behind a tree.

Panicking, you tried to find any way to avoid fighting the badger. But your thoughts didn't last long.

Only about 10 fox-lengths away, an impossibly huge creature with a white stripe down the front of its face lumbered through the bushes. Silently, you prayed to StarClan that somehow, your pelt would be able to blend in with the trees and grass, and the badger would walk away without even noticing.

As if reading your thoughts, it turned and faced in your direction, its black beady eyes glinting in the starlight. Slowly, it stepped clumsily toward the tree you were hiding behind.

Now, you had three choices. One, wait for the creature to come close enough, then dart away, not in the direction of camp so you wouldn't lead it there. Two, turn toward the tree a few tail-lengths away with the cat-sized hollow and hope the badger wouldn't see you as you bolted over there to hide. Or three, try to fight it off.

However, you ended up not choosing for yourself.

A dark tabby tom crashed through the bushes, yowling to get the badger's attention. His amber eyes glowed with a challenge as he glared at the creature, daring it to come closer. Whipping its oversized head around, the badger accepted. Brambleclaw, you're going to get yourself killed.

Stumbling, it walked towards him. He nodded in your direction, signaling you to run. But you shook your head. I'm not running while he fights this all on his own! He rolled his eyes, launching himself onto the badger's back.

Suddenly feeling a rush of energy, you darted toward it while it wasn't looking in your direction, surprising it when you raked your claws into its side. But its fur and skin were so thick that it didn't do much damage. Hissing defiantly, you snapped your gaze up to Brambleclaw, silently asking him what you should do.

"The face! Claw its eyes and nose!" He hissed. "I'll try to keep it from snapping at you." You nodded and raced around to the front of the badger, who was now trying to grab Brambleclaw in its unforgiving, powerful jaws. You heard a yowl of pain, but thought nothing of it.
