When I woke up the next morning I got into my truck and headed to the pavillion first thing because I forgot my phone. As I walked in Jared was there.
“Hey” I said grabbing my phone
“MmmmHmmm” he mumbled barely looking up.
“Whatever!” I said getting upset as I walked out
When I got back into my truck I checked my phone. 9 new messages, 3 missed calls it read. Instantly I knew to call Nicole.
“Hello?” she answered after the first ring
“Hey” I said worried
“You didnt answer any of my calls or messages? Are you ok?” she asked worryingly
“Yea I forgot my phone in the locker room, are we still going to the mall today?”
“ Of course!” She exclaimed.
Two hours later I found myself pulling into the parking lot of the North Point Mall. A majority of the day went by her asking if she looked good and me saying ‘of course’ with a smile.
On the way home I had to stop and get gas. as I was filling up I heard a familiar voice behind me.
“Hey.” said Ryan, a kid from school.
“Sup.” I replied normally.
“So are you to guys a thing?” His sister Katie asked pointing at Nicole and me from behind his car.
“No!” we both simultaneously said.
“So you really are gay then?” she asked
“Who told you that?” I demanded cutting her off.
“Well no one, I just heard it.” she said
“Someone had to of told you that! Who said it?”
“We have to go.” Nicole said pulling me into my truck.
As we started pulling away I glanced at Nicole who was staring deeply into the dashboard. “Im sorry.” she said. “I wish I knew who was telling people.”
“Me too” I agreed.
Just that exactly is how everybody greeted me for the next few days. My day would be going great, then somebody would ask that question turning my day around completely. All I could wonder was who was blabbing, and why they would tell anybody.
The next Monday practice was harder than it has ever been. Normally towards the end of the season the weather starts to cool down, however today was 98 degrees. The offensive drills were agonizing! We had to hold the two all conference defensive tackles for 7 seconds or else we were forced to sprint forty yards.
That whole week flew by. Every day at the very least, three people would ask me about my sexuality, leading me to the same answer-no.
