*Emery's POV*
When I stepped into my house, the smell of alcohol and cigarettes hit me. I looked around the living and kitchen, trying to find either Olivia or James. When I walked behind the couch, I saw James passed out with a beer bottle in his hand. Relief washed over me as I ran up the stairs to Olivia's room. The door was wide open allowing me to walk in and see Olivia in the corner hugging her knees. I quickly ran over to her and could see all the bruises on her body. She had a little black eye, bruises all over her arm and legs. When I lifted her shirt, her whole lower stomach was bruising and bleeding.
"Olivia, what happened?"
She wiped her tears away before looking at me. "I was doing my homework wh--when he came into my room and asked where y--you were. I told him that you were studying with a friend. But he didn't believe me so he started drinking and punching me."
This is all my fault. If only I hadn't went to the library after school.
I held her hands tightly with mine and started getting her to stand up so I could clean her up. "I'm so so sorry Olivia. This is all my fault. I should've been here to protect you." I said as I could feel the tears coming.
"It's fi--"
Olivia was cut off when James came into the room. He had the half empty beer bottle in his hand and a mischievous grin forming on his face. "Well, look who finally decided to come home. You know your not suppose to leave the house without my permission Emery. Guess I'll have to punish you."
As James was making his way over to me, I turned to Olivia whispered something to her. "Go over to Ethan's house and don't come back for an hour, okay? I'll be fine, don't worry about me."
Before Olivia could say anything, James grabbed my arm and dragged me away from Olivia. We made our way over to the living room. All I remember was Olivia screaming for me before I was hit on the head by a beer bottle. I instantly fell down to the ground, my head throbbing. Before I could react, James pulled me up from the ground, holding me by my shirt and punching me over and over again. I was on the ground again I held my hand up to my face and felt blood, dripping everywhere. My eyes were swollen and lip was bleeding.
I tried getting up, but he kicked me in the stomach, causing a cry of help to escape my mouth.
"How many times do I have to tell you, NEVER disobey me." I could smell the alcohol from his breath and just as I thought it was over, he grabbed another beer bottle from the ground and broke it across my face, causing a cut on my right cheek. I somehow got the strength to get up and walk over to James, who was now in the kitchen, getting another beer bottle. I stood where we were face to face and looked him right in the eye.
"What do you think my mother would say when she see's me like this?" Before turning my back and walking to my room, I spit blood on James face. After wiping the blood from his face, he grabbed me by the neck and slammed my head on the refrigerator, causing me to black out.
*
Waking up, I was in another room. Fortunately, I recognized the place as Ethan's room. I woke up with my whole body hurting and a sharp pain on my stomach. I scanned the room and saw my old blood stained clothes on the floor and I looked down and was dressed in sweatpants and a plain white shirt. Before I had some time to myself, I heard footsteps entering the room. It was Olivia and Ethan. I saw Olivia's eyes widen as she ran over to me, giving me a big hug.
"Your awake! Thank god. Don't scare me like that again Emery!"
I hugged her back and looked over to Ethan, who had a worried look on his face. "Emery, you almost died back there."
