Ashley sat quietly on the train, clutching her cracked iPhone 4 in one hand and a single rose in the other.

Lauren Jauregui was by no means Ashley's girlfriend but sometimes, Lauren would kiss her neck and whisper pretty little sentences into her ear with that wonderful raspy voice of hers.

Ashley cleared her throat a little, not wanting to think about that too much on a public train, and she looked around her at the other people in her carriage instead.

There was a woman sitting opposite her, holding a paperback tightly. Ashley couldn't see the title but the woman was very into the story.

Beside the woman was a man on his laptop, furiously typing. Ashley wondered was it an article for a newspaper or an angry letter to a colleague at work. Or maybe it was a Facebook status. Who knew?

To the right of Ashley was two teenagers, not much younger than Ashley. They sat close to each other, silently, making Ashley wonder were they just close friends or were they something more.

At the other end of the train sat an elderly man reading the newspaper, his glasses hanging on the very edge of his nose.

The glasses fell off the man's nose when the train jolted to a stop at Halsey Street in Brooklyn. Ashley gripped her rose and walked through the double doors as they opened and she jumped onto the platform, waiting until the train pulled away.

As it left the station, Ashley looked across the tracks and saw Lauren on the other side, leaning against a pillar and smoking a cigarette, the ashes landing softly on the arm of her leather jacket.

Ashley used the stairs to cross to the other side and she hugged the other girl from behind.

"Hey babygirl" Lauren said before kissing her deeply, taking Ashley by surprise. Lauren Jauregui rarely ever kissed the smaller girl on the lips.

"Hey" she said quietly, before handing the brown haired girl the rose.

Lauren took the rose and broke the stem in half, slipping the rose behind her ear. She then stomped out the cigarette and held out her hand which Ashley gingerly took and together, they left the station and into, what seemed to be in Ashley's case, the unknown.
