Ashley trudged into her chemistry class late the next morning. She let out the breath she'd been holding when she noticed the teacher wasn't there.

She took her seat down the back beside Ruby Rose, a tall girl with short hair falling around her eyes.

Ashley tied her hair up into a ponytail and opened her chemistry book, turning the pages slowly as she tried to remember what they had did in the class the week before. But all she could think about was Lauren.

Meanwhile, Ruby stared at Ashley. There was something so innocent about her.

"Can I help you?" she suddenly said.

"Mmh?" Ruby looked up into her hazel eyes.

"You've been staring at me since I came in." Ashley said shyly.

"Oh. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable" Ruby looked away.

"No you didn't, it's just I'm kinda used to people staring at me in a bad way, like they stare and then they laugh"

Ruby's eyes softened "Hey, i'm sorry"

Ashley shrugged "It's whatever I can deal with it"

Ruby gave her a small smile and they went silent for a moment before Ashley spoke again.

"How come i've never seen you around before?"

"I never come to school. When I do, I either sit in the bathroom smoking or I sit at the back and stay quiet"

Ashley nodded quietly and was about to reply before the teacher came in, his voice booming around the room.

Ruby's arm snaked around Ashley's waist suddenly. A shiver went up Ashley's spine at her touch.

She pressed her lips to Ashley's ear "You should come with me for a smoke"

"He won't let us go together" Ashley murmured.

Suddenly, Ruby collapsed on the floor.

Ashley let out a squeal and called for the teacher. He ordered her to take Ruby to the infirmary.

Ashley dragged her out of the room and the second the door closed, Ruby chuckled and wrapped her arms tighter around Ashley's waist.

"I knew that would work"
