"Geoff I'm cold." Awsten whined, poking the older boy's back with his index finger. He began pouting when Geoff didn't acknowledge him, and he turned over to face his back to his. "Fine, I'll just cuddle myself then."
A low groan echoed through the room as Geoff tossed over onto his other side, his arm coming around and encircling the younger boy's waist protectively. "Stop whining, Aws. It's too early to be whiny." The elder's lips pressed into Awsten's back, causing warmth to spread out over his skin.
Awsten gasped and let out an exaggerated sigh. "I can't believe you have the fucking audacity to call me, Awsten C. Knight, whiny." Despite his offended act, Awsten relished in the warmth provided by Geoff's body. "Maybe we should just break up—oh yeah we're definitely over buddy."
"Shush—you and I both know we wouldn't really survive." Geoff pressed another kiss into Awsten's back, snuggling his face against the younger boy's bare skin and sighing in content. "Get back to sleep, princess."
Little did Awsten know that that night would be the last time he felt Geoff's body against his for a long, long time.
"Aws—Aws wake the fuck up!" It was Patty's frantic yelling and exasperated tone that shook Awsten from his peaceful sleep. His voice sounded rushed, causing Awsten's eyes to snap open.
Awsten must've fell into a deep sleep as Patty drove, but didn't wake up until just then. "W–What is it?" His torso jolted up, almost causing his forehead to smash into the top of Patty's sedan. "What's going on?"
Patty's hair was wild and his knuckles were a ghostly white. He kept flicking his eyes over his shoulder, but stayed steady inside of the road-lines. "They were at my fucking house, Awsten. I went in to get my laptop and stuff, and they were fucking there!"
That's when Awsten looked around his surroundings and noticed he didn't recognized anything around him. The car windows were painted with fields of grain, a deep purple sunset along the horizon. The roads before the pair were cracked and uneven, with no other car in sight. "So w–where the fuck are we?" Awsten began panicking, feeling his anxiety begin to rise heavily. His hand gripped the center console as he felt himself sink into the seat and deeper into his neurotic episode.
"Outskirts of the Woodlands." Patty kept an eye on the rearview mirror as he continued steadily driving down the narrows roadway. "I was lucky enough to grab some stuff and throw it into a bag." He reached back into the backseat and produced a small duffel bag, zipped tightly closed and tied all together. Patty laid the duffel bag into Awsten's lap and replaced his hands onto the wheel.
Pulling the zipper open, Awsten peered into the duffel bag and sorted through what was inside. There were a couple shirts and underwear, along with chargers for phones and Patty's laptop. A leather–bound journal was inside as well as a glass jar filled with bills of money, mostly twenties and tens. "Why didn't you just go to Geoff's house? You didn't have to drive almost fucking an hour away!"
Patty sighed shakily as the sights of civilization came back into view. A large flickering neon sign came into view, the words 'Molly's Motel' scrawled in flashing cursive letters. "They were fucking following me for about thirty minutes, Aws. I had no choice! You don't want anything bad happening to Geoff's family would you?" Patty rose an eyebrow in Awsten's direction, who quickly shook his head no. "Exactly. We'll stay here tonight and decide what to do."
Keeping the duffel bag steady in his lap, Awsten laid his head back against the headrest and let his mind race. The longer he took funding where Geoff was, the longer his boyfriend would suffer. He needed to find him quickly before anything happened to him.
"Let's go get ourselves a room, shall we?" Patty took the duffel bag from Awsten's lap and exited the car, prompting the younger boy to do the same. The pair walked briskly up to the front desk, shivering as the hot night air slid away from their shoulders and was replaced cold motel air conditioning.
The lady at the from door was almost as old and worn as the building itself. Her face was sagging with wrinkles and her bright blue eyes were hidden by her bagged eyelids. "Can I help you two?" She darted her eyes back and forth, but settled on Patty when he began speaking.
"Hi, yes we'd like to reserve a room for the night." Patty reached into his pocket and produced his leather bound wallet, pulling it open and retrieving two one–hundred dollar bills. "How much will a two–bed room cost?"
The woman popped the cash register open and glared over at Patty. "We only have double beds. It'll be forty–five dollars for the night."
Sighing, Patty replaced his bills with a single fifty, handing it over and pocketing his wallet. "Keep the change." He reached out and took the room key from her outstretched hand, picking up his duffel bag and leading Awsten towards room 582. "You can take the bed, don't worry."
"Don't be ridiculous. It's a double, we can sleep in the same bed you know." Awsten watched as Patty unlocked the flimsy motel door, pushing it open and revealing their bare minimum room. "Things don't have to be so awkward between us now."
Patty rolled his eyes and tossed his duffel bag onto the lone chair in the room, pulling off his t-shirt as he began getting ready for bed. "I—you know I have every right to make things awkward between us. Should I bring up what fucking happened, Awsten?" When Awsten remained quiet, Patty sighed and turned his back to the younger boy, chewing on his lip and staring at the paint chipping on the wall. "That's what I thought."
