Dinner came quickly after that. There were assigned seats. Orion Black sat at the head of the table, his wife on his right hand. Adults sat nearest him and us kids were at the other end of the table, with no one sitting at the foot, even though there was a chair placed there. I sat on the same side of the table as Walburga, the only other seat being the empty one. Regulus sat across from me. An older girl with wild black hair sat next to me.

Turns out the girl's name was Bellatrix. She was a cousin of Regulus. I pretended to be interested in her insane ranting, my head turned her way and nodding slightly as she spoke. It seemed to make her like me, which I thought was nice.

"So which family are you from?" she finally ended.

"My grandparents are the Sheraton's," I stated dryly.

"But didn't their only daughter run away to America?" Bellatrix clarified curiously.

"Mum eloped with my dad, who happened to be Pureblood, to America," I explained, my voice even more dead than before.

"Did they move back to England, then?"

"No. They died."

"I'm so sorry," Bellatrix gasped. "It's always such a shame when purebloods die."

"It's a shame when anyone's parents die, Bellatrix," a new voice interrupted. I jumped slightly at the sudden sound. We both turned to the formerly empty seat at the foot of the table. A boy who looked similar to Regulus was sitting there now. His hair was significantly longer. Bellatrix huffed and turned away, starting a conversation with a blonde on her other side.

"Can't say I've ever seen you around before," the new boy commented to me.

"Kendra Watson," I stated.

"Watson isn't a family in the Sacred 28," he replied. "I know my parents wouldn't have invited someone who isn't in that group."

"My grandparents are the Sheraton's," I explained. The sentence sounded more dry every time I said it.

"That makes sense," he mused. "I'm Sirius Black." I made no comment, barely moving my head in recognition that I'd heard him. "Risky for you to wear those colors."

"That's what Regulus said," I groaned. "I honestly don't care! It's not like I can change it at this point." Sirius laughed, the first time I'd heard that sound since school.

"I like you," he claimed.

"Tell me something I don't know," I returned. I talked with Regulus again for a bit, but Sirius fought for my attention. Dessert was brought out and I turned back to chat with Bellatrix, despite her being quite crazy. It was actually somewhat better than being fought over for my attention.

Everyone filed back into the main room to continue the party. Someone grabbed my arm and yanked me off to another room as I was about to head in. Sirius was pressed in against me in the small closet he'd pulled me into.

"Sirius!" I started. "Wha-" He slammed his hand over my mouth, cutting off the rest of my question. People walked past the door, muffled conversations sounding through the door.

"Do you really want to go back in there?" he asked in barely a whisper. "It's only the fancy slow songs they'll be playing."

"Honestly no," I replied, my voice even softer than his was. "But my dress is really recognizable. They probably know I'm not there."

"Then I'll go in with you," he decided. "Can't leave a fellow Gryffindor alone in there. Come on." He led me out of the closet. As we neared the door to enter, Sirius started backing off. I grabbed his wrist in a strong grip and dragged him into the party. He'd already said that he would go in with me and I was not about to walk in alone.
