It's a Date

It was another week before Lily came over. Sirius laid off me with our agreement in place. There were plenty of times when the males all went out of the house leaving just me and Euphemia. She was like the mother I always wanted, but never had. And I was the daughter she'd wanted.

"Lily!" I squealed, running down from my room. Mia, um Euphemia, had just told me she was here. She was with James and Sirius in the main room.

"Kendra!" she screamed. Both boys groaned and covered their ears. We chatted about what had happened so far that summer as I linked arms with her and led her to my room.

"Black asked me out," I whispered conspiratorially.

"And?" Lily questioned. "You said yes right?"

"I said that I'd have to consult with you first," I murmured. "Then probably."

"Probably!" she screeched. "You go down there and tell that boy yes this instant!"

"Only if you keep James occupied while we're out," I replied, raising an eyebrow.

"You drive a hard bargain," she returned, stroking her imaginary beard. Neither of us could hold back our laughter for very long.

"Girls?" Mia asked, popping her head in. "Lily can stay in the room straight through the bathroom." We whooped in joy as Mia closed the door.

Once I got around to talking to Sirius again, he started planning for our date. I knew he was going to make it special because I knew he wanted to keep dating me. If he didn't make it special, I would know he wasn't worth the effort. But yes, fine, I maybe had a bit of a crush on him. He told me to dress semi-fancy. I don't do that. I either go all out or nothing. So, Lily and Mia were helping me get ready.

Lily picked out a short little flowy summer dress. It was deep orange with bright flowers. It went barely to the middle of my thighs with thin spaghetti straps holding it up. She paired a cute black braided belt with it and my black sandals. Mia put herself in charge of my hair. She left most of it down, thank god, but pulled it away from my face. When I looked in the mirror, I could see a few small braids intermixed with my long locks. I was in charge of my make up. I went with simple winged eyeliner, gold eyeshadow, and light pink lips. Nothing too much, but enough.

"You look stunning," Sirius breathed as I walked down the stairs behind Lily and Mia.

"You're not too bad yourself," I returned, pleased at his compliment. He offered me his hand and I let him lead me out of the house. The two of us walked in silence, down the road into town.

"This isn't an act, is it?" he asked quickly. "I mean the last time I saw you with make up it was that back to school party at my parents." I laughed.

"No," I denied. "I promise this is not an act. I just wanted to look nice for our date, that's all."

"You look nice without makeup," he murmured. I squeezed his hand in a thank you. He glanced at me with a genuine smile on his face. Chatting softly, the two of us continued on our way into town.

Sirius took me to a little diner. I didn't order anything really expensive, not knowing how much money he had on him. The food was nice and he didn't even need me to help him pay. The two of us walked down to a mall and just window shopped for a while, getting to know little quirks about each other.

He kept his promise, both of them actually. He made me forget, even if just for a little while. Then Sirius started avoiding me. He'd take James or Lily out whenever I entered the room. Sirius was avoiding me and I hated it.

"He's avoiding me!" I complained to Lily the night before she was going to leave. "Ever since our date! What did I do?"

"He's giving you space," she replied. "Like he said he would if you didn't like it."

"But I loved it," I admitted. "He's helped me get through my dad and my family. I miss talking to him."

"Then talk to him," she suggested.

"The problem is he's avoiding me," I deadpanned. "How do I talk to him?"

"You force him to talk to you," she suggested. "I'll distract James so you can get him alone." I followed her down the stairs. James and Sirius were talking animatedly. James followed Lily out of the room like a lost puppy.

"Why have you been avoiding me?" I asked before Sirius could make a dumb excuse to leave. He was already backing towards a doorway. I marched right up to him.

"What?" he denied, running a hand through his hair nervously. He took a step backwards for every step I took towards him. "I haven't been avoiding you."

"You have, and I need to know why," I continued forcefully. "I had fun on our date. I liked it!"

"You did?" he questioned, his back hitting a wall. "I was expecting you to hate me even more." He looked towards his toes as he admitted his thoughts.

"Sirius, I've never hated you," I told him gently, lifting his chin to look at me. "Disagreed, yes. Been annoyed, hell yeah. But hated you? Never."

"So, you'd be alright if I asked you to be my girlfriend?" Sirius asked, a hopeful glint in his eyes.

"Well, I think you'd have to ask me to find out," I teased.

"Please, will you be my girlfriend, Kendra?"

"Only if you'll be my boyfriend, Sirius." He laughed and brought me in for a kiss.

"I'm all yours," he murmured.

"I've heard you're a good snogger," I returned playfully.

"More than good, my darling," he answered.

"I think I'll have to test that fact," I whispered.

"Sirius! You lied to me!" James yelled suddenly, pulling us apart dramatically. "I thought I was your one true love!"

"Oh you were! But Kendra has stolen my poor broken heart," Sirius proclaimed, drawing me back into his side. Knowing the boys would go on forever, I kissed Sirius on the cheek before worming out of his arms and dragging Lily outside. I led her past the river and into the tree line, up my favorite tree around here.

"Did he kiss you?" she blurted. "I mean of course he did, he's Sirius."

"I brought you out here so we could scream our victory!" I interrupted. "And yeah, he kissed me." Lily squealed loudly, almost falling from the limb. I screeched as I caught her, nearly falling myself. We paused for a second before starting to screech again. And so a few hours passed with us alternating between screams, insane laughter, and actual conversation.
