Loss is a thing of life, or so everyone says anyways. I just don't understand why it hurts so much. Why do bad things happen to good people? What did I do to deserve this loss? I watch as they lower the casket, throw flowers in, and bury my love. I couldn't speak at the wake, I can't speak now.

David Andrew Lee was his name. That's what they're going to put on the tomb stone, but I asked for them to put Davy in parenthesis or something under it because that's what everyone called him. I miss him, his booming laughter, and his encouraging smile. I miss his arms around my waist while I'm doing dishes and his breath tickling my neck. I miss him too much to go on...

John, his older brother, gets up to speak. "Davy was an amazing person, I'm thankful he was my little brother. He did little things that weren't often noticed but always made someone's day. Everyday he brought flowers to the old widow that lived next door, he fed the stray cat on our ally, and he smiled. He smiled at everyone who passed him. We weren't very close when we were younger because we were so far apart in age but I remember once when we were young he saw a sad man sitting on a bench. Before we could stop him he had gone over there and tugged on the mans sleeve. He said 'Excuse me sir, why are you sad?' The man looked up and said 'My daughter died.' Oh man that just crumpled me. I ran over to get little Davy before he did anymore damage but I paused. Davy had hugged the man, a complete stranger, and the man hugged him back. He had a way of bringing out happiness wherever he went. I know that he is looking down at us from Heaven smiling, just waiting for the day we meet him up there."

John steps down and everyone looks at me to do the next speech. I just look down.

I don't know what they expected. I was never the outgoing one. He had always been able to talk in front of people, and talk loud, but I hadn't. I smiled lightly remembering the first time I met Davy.

"Class, this is our new student, Suzy," the teacher motioned to a small, shy, six year old girl. The girl blushed and gave a tiny wave. A loud and obnoxious boy in the back of the class waved back with both hands.

"Hi Suzy! I'm Davy! You can sit next to me!" he shouted across the room. The little girl giggled and walked to the open seat. "I'm six too, you know, but I know all kinds of grown up things from my brother," smiling he proceeded to tell her all the dirty jokes he heard his brother tell his friends.

Suzy's eyes became so wide they looked as if they would pop right out the sockets, then she laughed so hard the teacher told them both they couldn't go to recess. At first they were sad but when everyone else went out to recess they stayed inside and played with everything like they were free from all the world. Then they proceeded to prank the teacher by putting white glue all over her seat right before she came in. Davy told Suzy of all the crazy, awesome pranks his brother always pulled on everyone. They giggled quietly as the teacher sat in the gooey mess. Her face turned as red as a crayon and sent them to the office. High fiving eachother they skipped off to the office, not caring that they were about to be paddled for their prank.
