You towed Tucker to the radio tower and had him stand up top by the on-off button.
"Okay, when I say so, hit the switch and tell me if it helped or hurt our signal," you say, jumping down off the top of the tower.
You go into the bottom of the tower and begin to mess with some of the wires that 2.0 had attached to the power supply. Trying to find a better way to split the power and make the radio signal stronger.
"Try it now Tucker!" You yell.
Tucker flips the switch and waits for a moment then yells, "It's the same, just straight static coming through."
You go back to work messing with the wires when you hear footsteps approaching Tucker from above you.
"Tucker, what are you doing?" You hear Wash's voice ask.
"Isn't it obvious? I'm doing my assignment and trying to fix the radio," said Tucker.
"And (y/n) isn't with you?" Asked Wash.
"Nope, they said that I should optimize the signal by plugging this into that. Then Caboose ran by on fire and they took off after him," Tucker lied.
You paused and looked upwards questioning why Tucker would lie in your mind.
"Well at least they can handle Caboose, gods know I never could. I just don't get it, I was having such a hard time being team leader but they seem to be thriving. Everyone listens to them, even you," said Wash.
"Hey, honestly I'm trying to help them. They have been alone for how long? Human interaction has to be difficult for them, that being said they're efficient, a very good leader despite their lack of interaction. However, this is putting a strain on them. They are stubborn and want to prove to you that they are a good leader, but watching how they work now, the emotional strain is visible. They don't like having enemies, especially since it's the reds. They stare off into space sometimes now and I find myself having to snap them out of it," says Tucker sounding a bit concerned.
You never really realized that you were staring off into space. Well, it's something you'll just have to keep an eye on.
"They are a good leader, but they're spiteful. I was just trying to get them to calm down and not shoot the reds and they just blew up at me. Now I'm essentially running laps as a punishment for angering them," said Wash tiredly.
"Okay Mr. Hypocrite," said Tucker, turning the radio on again.
"Hypocrite? Exactly what do you mean Tucker?" asked Wash in an angry tone.
"You blew up too. You escalated a situation farther than it needed to be and now you're angry with the consequences of your own actions," said Tucker as he turned the radio back off. "Plus whether you know it or not you also take your anger out on us as troops. The bullshit tests, the bitchy attitude, you may be good at leading but half the time you aren't looking at us like people you're using us as pawns. At least they have the common decency to see us all for who we are and try to play to our strengths."
"You're just mad that I am forcing you to do things even though they are making you better," says Wash accusatorily. "You don't even believe they could be a good leader, you just want to get out of work!"
You stand there for a moment frozen the pure ice in that statement struck a chord in you and made your blood run cold. Did no one actually believe you could make a good leader, was it all to avoid the severity drills?
"Maybe that was true at first. Maybe I never wanted to be running drills, maybe all I wanted to do was talk to my friend but he was gone and all I had was you!" yelled Tucker, pure sadness laced into his words. "But they were there, they did talk to me and keep you off my back, they did see me as a person rather than a list of pros and cons. They do care about me and you and Caboose and everyone else. They are a perfect leader, and they have my full trust."
