The branches of the willow tree hang in the balance of secrets, the dreary morning sky setting the
mood for secrets...dark ones. Damon knows he owes Elaina the truth, but he just can't tell it. He
cannot divulge the fact that he and Stefan are creatures, creatures of the night. They sit there in
silence for what seems like a long time, until he finally speaks. "I suppose I shall start from the
beginning right?" Elaina nods slowly, turning her attention onto him. "I am 6 years older than
Stefan, whom I assume you have met." Again, she nods. "My mother died shortly after giving birth to him, and I spent most of my younger years caring for him. Our father was not around so much. He slipped into great sadness that ruled over him eventually. When I was 14 and Stefan was 8, our father decided life was not worth living anymore." Damon pauses, staring off into the sky, and Elaina moves closer to him, placing a finger on his chin, and pulling his eyes to look into hers. She sees so much emotion in the glittering pools of blue, and he sees passion, kindness, and much more, getting lost in hers. So many things can be said without uttering a word. Finally, after some time, Elainas eyes flit to the small pond beyond the willow trees. Damon's eyes stay upon her, and when she turns to face him again she whispers,
"I'm going to tell you what someone very wise once told me." She looks up at him, and sees a half
smile creep onto his angelic face.
"Oh, and what would that be?" She returns the smile.
"You won't be sad forever Damon." What she does next, surprises, scares, and thrills him all at
once. She moves even closer to him and wraps her arms around his shoulders and hugs him tightly, resting her chin in the crook of his neck. It scares him because she might just be the one
that will save him.
