Another night without sleep. Alec woke up in the middle of the night and have had been laying in bed with his eyes closed for almost 20 minutes before he could actually find some strength to get up.Alec got up and went to the kitchen.
He rabbed his eyes and filled a big glass with water. He looked out of the window and enjoyed the view for a while: quiet streets being completely empty, a couple of car lights could be seen somewhere in the distance, the moon that was hiding behind the clouds and suddenly came out and lightened the sleeping city.
Alec remembered how he used to sneak out to the rooftop of the Institute to see the stars. They seemed to be so free and unreachable. God, how he wanted to be one of them sometimes.
He also remembered how Jace would find him there and scold him for not being in bed. 'Always trying to play the oldest' Alec smiled to himself. But then suddenly realized:
- Jace.. - he whispered and an unexpected tear fell on his cheek.
Alec started replaying their last meeting in his head, how mean he was to Jace, how.. upset his parabatai seemed. 'Why was he that upset anyways?' Alec thought taking a sit. He covered his face with his hands and stayed like that for a while. Thoughts about Jace took an absolute control of his mind, that's when he knew he wasn't going to get any more sleep that night.
After what it seemed like an hour he decided he could use some fresh air.
As minutes passed he started to feel a bit chilly as he forgot to bring his jacket.
Alec was walking past closed shops and restaurants, streets seemed lonely and abandoned but then he noticed a place well-hidden by the buildings in front of him.
It had a big neon signboard saying 'BEAST' and a couple of bikers standing outside talking to each other.
He wasn't planning on coming in but suddenly saw a familiar figure inside the bar.Alec came closer and.. 'Damn it!' Alec thought and froze.
It was him. Blond hair, dark tee that revealed his strong arms, golden eyes aimed at a glass of god knows what.Alec didn't know where the confidence he got came from but he walked into the bar and took a sit next to his parabatai who didn't even notice Alec.
Taking a deep breath he finally spoke,
- Jace.. - almost whispered Alec, but loud enough for the other boy to hear. He turned around quickly having an annoyed look on his face, but his expression softened when he realized who was in front of him.- A..Alec? What are you doing here? - the younger said with his eyes widely open.
- Well.. I could ask you the same, - his parabatai said with a slight smile.
Jace chuckled.- Just having liquid dinner, - a sad smile appeared on his face.
- Jace.. It's literally 3 in the morning, - Alec was trying to restrain a smile.
- Late dinner, - Jace just shrugged and finished his drink, - Your turn.
- I um.. just needed some air I guess, - he said biting his lip, looking at his feet.
Jace nodded and pushed his second glass to the boy.- I'm not su-
- Drink it, - Jace said giving him a sad smile.
Alec drained the goblet to the bottom and squired afterwards.- Strong stuff, - he said still squiring.
Jace just chuckled and shook his head.
They sat in silence for a while and then the younger spoke:- I should probably get going.. Things have been tense in the Institute lately as you may know, - Jace said getting up.
- Yeah..- he sighed, - I um.. I'll walk you to the Institute.
Jace turned to him having a slight surprised face.- If you don't mind of course, - the elder added quickly.
- Yeah, sure. Why not?
They left the bar and started walking without saying a word to each other.
After 10 minutes of silence Alec couldn't take it anymore:
- Listen, about that time at Magnus's, - he said not daring to look up, - I'm sorry. No, I'm really sorry for being rude to you. You're the closest person I have and in the past few days I realized how much I need you in my life.
Alec looked up to face the other boy who had a frustration in his eyes. But a second later the brightest smile appeared on Jace's face.- I missed you, - he said still smiling and stopped walking to pull Alec into a big hug. They stayed like that for a while neither of them willing to let go.
- Don't ever do this again, okay? - Jace whispered to his parabatai's neck.
- What? - Alec asked softly.
- Push me away, - he said slightly
pulling away from the younger still holding his shoulders.- Okay, - Alec nodded approvingly with a small smile on his face. He was actually really surprised by how touchy his parabatai was. Jace has always seemed so cold-blooded and never let anybody into his heart. But today he could tell something about him was different. Was Alec the one to break down his walls?
They continued walking but now with a big relief filling their hearts.
When they entered the Institute everybody seemed super stressed, running around armed and ready to kill some demons.
They found they're way to Jace's room and as soon as they entered, the younger fell on his bed letting out a heavy sigh.
- Well, - Alec said awkwardly, - I should probably-
- Stay. Please. - Jace said quietly, turning on his back.
- Okay.. - he sighed, - Only for a little bit. - He rested his body on the other side of Jace's bed.
- I'm so stupid, - Alec whispered.
