I walk back down the stairs to try and find Emily. If Nate says we're leaving in ten minutes, then I guess we're leaving in ten minutes. I spot her by the kitchen counter again rooting on Isaac, who is playing beer pong against some other guys. She spots me as soon as I make my way into the kitchen and calls me over.
"Del, I know you want next game," she says as she slides me another solo cup.
I look around the kitchen and shrug.
"What the hell, why not," I say as i down the shot.
"You guys hear that? Austria girl has next game!"
I roll my eyes. God, wrong country.
////
The game is finally over and it's my turn to play. Emily said she wanted to be my partner but she is way too wasted to be throwing anything. I start lining up the cups again while I wait for a person to hop in. A guy walks over to the opposite side of the table and as I look at him Courtney steps beside him.
Oh fuck no.
Just as I'm about to back out, someone presses their hand to the small of my back.
"Ready to kick these losers asses?" I turn to look and it's Nate.
"I thought you said 10 minutes?"
"We'll leave after this game," He turns to Emily. "Get this girl another shot."
////
"Fucking hell, Hunter, you can't do anything right," Courtney cries.
Nate turns to high five my hand but I completely miss his hand. Maybe I drank too much. We're still kicking their ass, and it's the third game. Apparently they just can't give up. It's my turn to shoot and there's one cup left.
"Alright, Della, don't screw this up or your walking home."
I turn to Nate. "Yeah right, like you'll let that happennn," I giggle.
I stick my tongue out and squint aiming at the cup to shoot. I throw the ball and it lands perfectly in the cup. I jump up and down as the whole kitchen erupts into cheers.
"AUSTRIA AUSTRIA AUSTRIA," a guy starts shouting. I don't even care at this point I'm having too much fun. More fun than back home.
Nate shakes my shoulders, "Way to go!"
"Thank you," I smile and I look back at Hunter and Courtney who are both fuming.
Courtney walks right up to me and spits, "This isn't over."
I giggle again and say, "Seems like it is, don't get it twisted girl, it's just a game."
Her eyes grow big and she stomps her foot, "Look here foreign girl, Nate will suck you dry of anything you ever loved about yourself so I'd wipe that smile off your face." She pushes past me and goes out the back door.
Oof, someone's upset. Nate takes that as the cue to leave and we say our goodbyes and make our way to his car. He's a bit ahead of me since I'm stumbling like a moron. He turns around to see where I am and I wave a painfully drunk wave. He walks back to me and folds his arms. I look up at him and he's smiling.
"I don't like how much you're enjoying this." I plop on the grass and struggle to take my heels off. He chuckles and kneels down to help me take my shoes off.
"You don't have to help me, I know it's not in your nature." Nate shakes his head.
"You're going to make us late if I don't help you, and I don't want Gavin to be on my ass again, come on." Once my shoes are off he stands up and reaches for my hand. I take it and he pulls me up with ease. If he wasn't an asshole I'd take him on this grass right now. God, drunk thoughts are not my best ones. We begin to walk to the car again and I realize now might be the best time to ask some questions.
"Why do you call him Gavin, is he not your dad?" We make it the car and he opens the door for me.
"No, he's not." I nestle into the seat and he shuts the door. He gets to the driver side and starts the car. I guess he's not going to elaborate on that. I don't care, I'm drunk, i get a pass.
"So is Stella you're full blood sister?"
He backs out of Emily's driveway and starts to drive.
"What's with all these personal questions all of a sudden?" He asks defensively.
"I don't know. I just was curious, I guess. Maybe I had too much to drink."
"We'll I don't care if you're drunk or not, it's none of your business." Ah, refreshing, there's the Nate I know oh so well.
"Okay, I'm sorry," I guess I should stop pressing before he gets suspicious of me.
When we finally make it home Nate gets out of the car and slams the door. Jeez, I really pressed a nerve. I get out of the car as well and follow after him.
"Nate, I said I'm sorry." We make it to the door and he pulls his keys out to unlock the door.
"It's fine."
"I know but I overstepped and I wasn't meaning to hit a nerve."
"I said it's fine Della! Just let it the fuck go." And that just sobered me up. He opens the door and rushes up the stairs before I can say another word. Well fuck. I go up the stairs as well and make my way to my bedroom.
"Hey Della, did you have a good time?" Kate emerges from her room.
"Yeah, it was fine." I open my door and close it behind me. I'm sorry Kate but I'm really not in the mood to talk right now.
I rush to my bed and tears begin to fall from my eyes. I hate this so much, I'm not supposed to be liking these people. I will have to betray them and I hate that this is interfering with everything i was supposed to do. All of a sudden I hear something vibrate.
No, not now. I walk slowly over to my suitcase and pull out the one thing I wish didn't make a sound.
"H-hello?" I ask hoping it's not who I think it is.
"Naudia, something has come up, you will need to follow through with the plan sooner than we thought."
No.
"How soon?"
"You have two months to complete your mission. Don't disappoint me or you will never see your brother or your mother again."
"Yes, father."
