Two truths, one lie...
"Alright, my turn... Okay, well uh, my mother isn't here anymore, I like jogging and I hate peanuts with all my soul"
"I'd like to say your mother is still here but... It sounds true. So do you actually like peanuts?"
"Do I?"
"I don't think so. So you don't like jogging. Okay! That's my final answer, you don't like jogging"
"DING DING DING, I don't jog, I'm lazyyyyy"
She giggles cutely at my statement and then asks
"So... What happened to your mum? If... You don't mind me asking"
I hesitate for an instant, memories flooding back. "Well... She committed suicide when I was 13. She had a few miscarriages and her depression resurfaced. I still miss her, you know?"
"Yeah, I get it... My parents died about a year ago. They took a flight, it was a romantic weekend out. I was with my grandmother at the time. They went through some turbulence and next thing they know they're crashing down. They were two of the 15 that didn't make it back. My grandmother passed away last month so now I'm living with an adoptive family. We just moved here..." She looks away sadly, reliving the events.
"I'm sorry..."
"It's okay... I haven't smiled as much as I have with you since they died. You make me feel different, happy and hopeful again and I don't know why. I'm scared to get hurt, still."
"I would never hurt you on purpose... Listen, I'm so glad I met you. I really like you... And I know there's a possibility that soon enough I could love you and that's terrifying in my head but... We can help each other. I'll always be here for you, Clementine"
"I'll always be here for you too, Amelia"
"Promise?"
"Promise"
