Sorry I published this earlier. Turns out I am going to be extremely busy this night so I decided something is better than nothing!

Chapter Twenty Four: Puppy Eyes

"Layla" I smiled back with a great degree of pretense injected in my voice.

"How are you? You know I haven't seen you in a long time. What's up?" She flashed me her multimillion dollar smile.

She looked so innocent and nice. And I was crushing on her ex. Am I supposed to feel guilty? Cause I do right now.

"Nothing. As usual my life is boring" I replied dryly moving towards the mirror to examine my hair.

"You know, I always wanted to be blonde" she sighed.
I blinked, clearly unable to process the fact that she wanted something I had.

She was jealous of me?
She quickly waved the compliment away and resumed being her bubbly self.
"Tell you what? Since you're so bored why don't you come to my party at 9 on Friday?" She asked.

"Are you serious Layla?" A petite dark skinned girl asked.

"Shush Ally. Stop with the condescending tone"Layla warned.

Ally huffed and proceeded to apply more lipstick on her lips.

My jaw dropped as I stared at her.
"You're kidding right?" I asked unable to believe her. I never got invited to parties. I never went to parties. They were a constant reminder of my pain.

"No silly, I'll see you Friday night?"

I nodded smiling at her. I watched her hair bounce according to her body motion as she left the bathroom.
Suddenly my body became tense. What if she found out about Jason and I?
It was obvious she still liked him because she asked him for help when she was in trauma.
Would she still be nice after everything? Or I would become a victim to her.
My stomach knotted in dread at the mere thought.

"You know you'd probably end up like my grandma if you continue with that face of yours" A voice interrupted my thoughts.

Rayna washed her hands and grabbed some toilet paper then moved back, cocked her head and targeted the trashcan.
With a single move, the brown paper landed into the trashcan perfectly.

I gaped at her.
"Wow! That was- wow Rayna!" I praised.

She bowed her head and blushed.
"Thank you. I couldn't have done it without you"she gushed to her imaginary audience.

" You do realise it's just me in the bathroom right?"I deadpanned.

"Don't ruin the moment"

"So where did you learn that from. Do you play basketball?"

"I did in middle school. My brothers taught me how to play it. And I fell in love with it" she shrugged.

"Why don't you play for the school?" I exclaimed.

"I don't like boasting Eva- I know I'm possibly the best girl basketball player and I can score more than 15 goals with my eyes closed within 20 seconds and I can put half of those tall guys to shame but- I don't like boasting"She replied running a brush through her hair.

I rolled my eyes.

"Yeah you don't" I scoffed.
"So! You left the table suddenly. Is everything okay?" She asked testily.

Remembering the whole conversation with Jason, I smiled unconsciously.

"I know that look"

I gave her a confused look"what look?"

"The I'm- in- love- dreamy puppy eyes look"

Heat rapidly spread to my cheeks as I defended myself. "I'm not in love and I don't have a puppy look"

"Whatever makes you sleep"

"Give me your phone" she stretched her hand towards me.

"Why?"

"Your number?" She replied like I just asked a very stupid question. Which I must say I felt stupid immediately.

"Sure" I mumbled as I pulled out my iPhone.
I watched her as she texted with her manicured nails.
"Here. I sent myself a text so I have your number."

I collected the phone and glanced at the screen.

"The Almighty Rayna? Really?" I asked struggling to hold a laughter.

She pulled out her phone and typed swiftly.
My phone vibrated and I peered at it.
The Almighty Rayna: you free this afternoon?

"You do realise I'm right here" I waved at her.

"Killjoy"She muttered.

Eva: Yes

"Great! My brothers frustrate me so much so I need someone to plan a revenge scheme with. They both have dates tomorrow and I intend to prove my point in that house" She rubbed her hands with an evil smile on her face.

"Uh-oh. I need to go Rayna" I feigned fear.

"Shut up. We're twenty minutes late already" She filled me in.

My head shot up in panic.
"Twenty?! Oh my God. My grades!" I shrieked.
I frowned when I heard Rayna's laughter reverberating in the bathroom.

"This isn't sponge Bob. What's so funny?"

"You-...you should see your face." She laughed holding her side.

"Excuse me?"

"Stop getting all worked up Eva. It's just one class. It won't hurt. Why don't we go to my house and start getting ready to sabotage my brothers date." She offered.

Reluctantly I nodded and sent a quick message to Aurora and Jason, telling them I left earlier.

"And just so you know," she continued as I dried my hands with a toilet paper" sponge Bob isn't funny".

I targeted her face and threw paper at her.
And of course I missed.

You've met Layla!! What do you think of her? Who is eager to meet Rayna's brothers? I'm eager to hear your
thoughts!!
Random question: If you were Eva, how would you react to Layla?
Till then my strawberry shortcake.
