Chapter six: I'm scared

The drive was euphoric.

I could still feel my heart beating out of excitement.
We were standing at the front of the concession stand.

"So Eva, I guess we are watching romance?" Dylan smirked.
I rolled my eyes.
"I'm not really into romance" I spat.
"I'm guessing a lovey-dovey movie" he pestered.

Angrily I turned to Liam.

"I prefer horror movies .I think I'll watch---- Annabelle: creation" I pronounced, my lips forming a tight smile.
Adam and Liam started at me.
I was not facing Dylan but I could feel his stare.

"Are you sure?" Liam asked.

"Yhup" I nodded.

They were going to get disappointed.
I didn't get scared easily.

"Ok" he shrugged.

"Eva? Annabelle: creation is pretty scary. Are you sure?" Adam asked uncertain.

"I am." I faced Dylan. "What's wrong? Cat got your tongue?" I pouted.

Liam chuckled.

"No! No way. Just don't spill the snacks out of fright" he warned.

"Whatcha having?" Adam asked us.

"Hotdog, popcorn and cotton candy" I said.

"Popcorn, Doritos, 2 lays, a can of soda, preferably coke-" Adam trailed off.

"Woah" I said raising up my hands. "I'd think you diet every day with your stature".

"The genes at work" he shrugged.

"I'll have popcorn, spicy Doritos and a honey bun" Liam requested.

Dylan paid for the snacks and everybody held theirs.

"Ready for the movie?" Dylan asked with a smile.

"Never been better" I replied.

Deep beneath the smile I couldn't help but see the fear in his eyes.

--

"Dylan!" I grunted for the third time.

"What!?" He asked masking his fear.

"Next time you jump out of fright, quit spraying a confetti of popcorn on me" I advised with a smirk.

"I wasn't scared!" He denied.

"Don't believe him. I'm used to it" Liam said.

I chuckled.

Today was turning out to be fun.

I didn't have friends.

I- my thoughts were interrupted by Dylan's high pitched scream.

He threw his popcorn up and held me like a frightened toddler.

Liam and Adam looked at us and burst out laughing.

"Shhhh" a couple near us warned.

Dylan quickly let go of me and dusted the popcorn off his body.

"Great Adam! A perfect waste of popcorn" he said.

"I guess we all saw that it was you that threw the popcorn up" I said emphasizing the you.
"Are you really scared Dylan?" I taunted.

"What? No? Why should I be?" He said and immediately pushed his chest out, trying to look manly.

"You are pretty good at denying" I remarked.

"Well I'm no-" his "not" turned into a scream and he buried his head in his hands.

I giggled.

This boy could surely make someone laugh.

"Can we go? I'm getting bored" he suggested nervously.

"Just say the word" I urged.

"What word?" He asked feigning ignorance.

"You know the word" Adam said.

"Ugh. Alright! I'm scared. Can we go now?" He said rolling his eyes.

There was something about him.

He looked cute when scared.
His face looked flushed and his eyes were wide open.

"Haha. Alright" I said.

Our neighbors seemed relieved as we left.

I was sure we had caused a hell of distraction for them especially with Dylan's screaming.

"I know a place. It's quiet and peaceful." He suggested.

"Okey-dokey let's go" Adam said and with one swing, he jumped into the car.

My mind floated back to what Liam said.
Quiet and peaceful.

Maybe that was what I need.
I needed peace.

I needed to be free from the nightmares and everything.

Slowly pondering, I used my hand to block the stray blonde strands.

Hey hey hey
That star there needs your touch
Vote for this will you

I really love the irony in this chapter

Eva proves that she is not a stereotypical girl

And well so does Dylan lol

Remember there's a shiny star waiting for your touch.
Till then my favorite strawberry shortcake!
