His Royal Highness of Astye, the hidden country of magic, Prince Regis Nolan was smiling at me. He was quite tall for a 17 year old, over 6 foot with short, black and slightly curly hair with dark blue eyes and perfect white teeth. He had a tanned complexion and was built, in a muscly lean way.
"Lady Adira, can you please guide me to your parents, I must pay my respects." Regis said.
"Of course my prince." I replied while curtseying. As we walked off I looked back at Evana who gave me the thumbs up with a devilish smile. I rolled my eyes and turned back to face the front. As we were walking, my arm linked with his, he stopped walking and turned towards me.
" I'm sorry if you were pushed into the whole marriage thing. It's just been our mother's dreams to have us get engaged." Regis said mournfully.
"No, it's fine, I mean it's not like we hate each other, we used to be old childhood friends. And as I am the daughter of a Duke, I am required to do these things. But I do hate being out of control of these kind of affairs, your Highness." I replied. I continued walking towards my parents, the Duke and Duchess of Cetrea. (Surprise, she's a royal!)
He hurried back to me.
"Please call me Regis. You'll be seeing me around Laniara Academy in 2 weeks time anyway, and we'll have to hang around one another since we're betrothed to keep up appearances."
"Well, since you insist. Please call me Adira as well. My parents are just ahead, come on." I muttered and hurried ahead.
"Ah Adira! How are you enjoying the festivities!" Duke Camus, my father said joyfully.
"Oh, your royal highness, it's an honor to see you here." My mother, Duchess Theira curtsied.
"The honor is all mine. Thank you for inviting me to your home and Adira's coming of age party." Prince Regis said regally. It was obvious that my parents absolutely adored the prince and were delighted with the news of a betrothal between us two.
I rolled my eyes.
"Since I have nothing to do here, I'll be off! Bye!" I waved at the three and hurried off. Gosh I hate formalities, but then the riches and power that come with it? They make it all worth it.
After hours of greeting and making small talk with other party guests, mostly all dignitaries and other royals as well as people with power, they all finally went home.
I closed the door behind the last party guest.
"Yes finally!" I shrieked. I started dancing, took my heels off then started doing turns, jumps and pirouettes. Completely unaware that someone was watching me. Someone coughed. I was jumping at the time and when I landed, surprised, my foot slipped off the wooden floor and I fell. Then just before I hit ground, someone caught me around the waist. As I stood upright my eyes collided with a pair of dark blue eyes.
"Are you alright Adira?" Prince Regis said with a concerned look. His eyes were compelling me to talk but at the same time I just couldn't. There's always been something about Regis that I've felt attracted to. But there's no way I'm going to tell him that especially after what he did all those years ago.
"I'm fine. Goodnight Regis." I said haughtily and walked up the staircase to the second floor. As I was walking off I heard a reply.
"Goodnight love."
(So I guess this whole chapter was just establishing Adira and Regis's stance towards each other sorry if it was a bit long winded, I just had to put it all out there.)
