one of your friends, bethany, pokes you in the arm causing you to glare at her. bethany smirks and nudges her head to the right side of you, so you look over and alex quickly looks away. you look back over to bethany, shrugging your shoulders.
"he was staring at you!" bethany whispers, and you snort in response. "maybe he was staring at holly instead."
"oi alex, why don't you just take a picture of (y/n)? it'll last longer!" max, another member of the friendship group, laughs at alex.
you roll your eyes, deciding to stick up for alex. "oh, just leave him alone. we don't make fun of you for having a crush on bethany." alex places a hand over his face, as if he is face-palming. max snorts, "please (y/n), everyone knows i'm gay."
"woah (y/n)... are you admitting that alex does have a crush on you? because, it's about time you both did something about it." holly shrieks, as you slump down in your seat, covering your face with your hand.
you look over to alex, who is already looking at you, "i'm tired of this. lawther, do you have a crush on (y/n) or not?" max glares at alex, waiting for an answer. alex looks down and smiles, shaking his head, "i don't know!"
everyone round the table groans and quickly drops the subject. alex suggests that everyone goes home, as it's about to rain, so everyone stands up and says goodbye, before leaving.
later that day, you replay the situation that happened earlier today with alex and try to figure out what alex meant when he said that he doesn't know. he smiled, so does that mean it's true or that it's laughable for him to ever like you in that way?
you sigh, grabbing your phone to text bethany and holly to ask them what it means. as you're typing in the groupchat, your phone beeps indicating that someone has messaged you. finishing off your message, you press send and check the new message.
you widen your eyes, as you read the message from alex. 'yes, i do like you and i think you may like me back? please can we talk about this?'
bethany and holly replied to your message in the groupchat, reassuring you that he does like you and that he probably felt shy to admit it in front of everyone with you there also.
smiling to yourself, you begin typing a message to alex confirming that you like him too. you shakily press send, your heart thumping as you wait for alex's response. you jump, causing your heart to beat even faster as you see that alex has replied.
'thank fuck for that, i'm coming to your house now to have our first date ;)'
