Chapter 9 - part b
Or they thought I did it.
Romeo looked at both men blankly, not wanting to volunteer any information. Most specifically the fact that he had gone to see his dad the night he died.
"What exactly does this have to do with Mr. De-Grey?" asked the principle looking Mac as if he completely distrusted him.
"Your neighbors say they heard you two arguing"
This was nothing new, when Romeo had been a kid it was always his neighbors that saved him from his dad's drunken fits of rage. Romeo had gone home to make amends with his father, but then ended up fighting with his dear-old-daddy and storming out. Because his dad was drunk and Romeo knew that if didn't leave then, then he'd probably do something he really would regret later. Later that night he had gone back home to say his parting words before he cut his dad totally out of his life only to find his body at the base of the stairwell, guts spliced open and lying in a pool of blood.
the house reeked of alcohol. He heard the wind chime at the back of the house jingle, his mother had hung that up before she walked out on him all those years ago and left his to the mercy of his old-pops. He had found the back door left wide open and the window glass smashed and scattered. Suggesting that someone had forced their way in and just left after they'd heard Romeo come in. figuring that it was a regular break-in gone wrong he made a move towards the phone to call the police, but then stopped I his tracks.
Even with his dad drunk-to-piss he was a sturdy guy and wouldn't have bested easily, plus the murder pretty much matched Alison's, and with Romeo once again at the scene of the crime it would look more than a little suspicious. Isabelle's face flashed before his eyes. I didn't even get a chance with her, he thought remorsefully. Slowly he put the phone back on its cord and began cleaning his prints in the house. Not so through as to make it look professional but enough so that the police would be thrown off his trail.
once he was done with that he jumped into his car and made off in the dead of night away from his father, this old life and , most importantly, away from Alison. Romeo wanted nothing more than to forget everything and the more distance put between his father and his old life the more relief he felt. It was like a weight being lifted from his shoulders. He ran every detail of the night and the past over his head again and again as he drove back to Braxton falls, and felt his spirits lift. Now there really was nothing connecting him to his old life. With the last connection broken, he breathed easier than he had in the last four years, probably his entire life.
He put his foot down on the gas hard racing back to Braxton and back to Isabelle.
"What exactly are you insinuating, officer?" Said the head, rising in his seat and glaring at Mac; clearly outraged on Romeos behalf. The voice of the head master cut through all of Romeos thoughts and brought him back to the present. "Romeo?" he asked hoping to be let in to whatever was going on. The head knew little about Romeo father, just that he had been a miserable ghost of a man and his hobby was domestic violence and child abuse.
Romeo pressed his tongue to his cheek and waited for both men to calm down a little and think his answer through. he ran through his options. No point in lying, Mac knew him well and would probably get to the bottom of whatever it was, having said that, he was a cop and Romeo had been convicted on manslaughter once before. Still, since he hadn't really done anything it was best to stick to the truth as close as possible.
