^^^Jetta

"Where's the girl?!" The drunken voice breaks into her feverish sleep. Her blury eyes try to focus in the small dark space. She can hear patterning of small feet down stairs. Her ribs ache as she pulls herself up into a sitting position on the dirty floor. She knows he will remember where he left her. She wanted to be ready for when he came. He had beaten her unconscious the last time. She only came home from school, and walked into a hell storm. He left her in this place and told her he would be back.

She-Jetta has been in this hell for the last year. It had finally gotten bad enough that she had slipped away and put a call into her case worked Bill Wade. Bill had been her life line for the past six years. He gave her his phone number and told call him at anytime night or day.

Now she just had to survive long enough for him to find her. Like so many times before he thought he had found a safe place for her to stay. Just like the other times things turned bad the minute his back.

Slap!

Thud!

The sound of a small child crying drifted up to Jetta. She could not help but cringe at the sound of the boy's crys. Jetta and the boy were the only two that had no where to run. She bite her lip to stop herself from screaming in pain as she moved back further in the small space.

Bamm!

The sound of the front door being broken down had her jumping out of her skin. She closed her eyes and tried hard to hear what was happening down stairs. Behind her closed lids she once again had the vision of the same bright green eyes that made her feel safe.

So many times over the last month she had dreams of those same eyes. She always felt safe when she did. The feeling of that safety faded away as soon as she woke up.

"Freeze right there." A new harder voice called out. "Where is Jetta Cross?"

"I have no clue who your talking about." The drunk voice slurred. Jetta could almost see the sick smile slide across his face.

"Tell us where you have her." This was the voice she would recognize anywhere. Bill Wade, her case worker, he had finally came. Jetta felt a rush of relief at the sound of his angry voice.

"He put her in the room." A small timid voice spoke up.

"Show me." Bill's voice was just a bit softer. "And take that piece of trash away."

The sound of many people coming up the steps got closer. "Here, she in there" the little boy's told the crowd.

"Why does there need to be so many locks on a door?" Bill angerly asked. "Well don't just stand there. Get something to open this damn door. You take this boy to get something to eat."

The loud cracking of the door as it gave way to the men outside had Jetta trying to back up more. Even though she was as far back as she could go.

"Jetta it's just me. Bill" He reached slowly for her. "It's ok, no one going to hurt you." Bill moved closer. "Can you stand?".

She looked at his outstretched hands. She knew she could trust him, but she knew she could not move. Bill moved in to lift her out of the small space after she shook her head no.

"It's ok I got you. Just hold on till I get you out of here." Jetta sharp intake of breath let Bill know that she was in pain. He tried to be as careful as he could be.

Once out of the closet Bill handed her to the medical personnel that had been called to help with the call. Bill stood back and let them work on getting Jetta stable. It made his heart hurt to think of what she had gone through.

Bill followed the ambulance through the streets. He was trying to boost him self up for the news that he knew the doctor would be delivering. Bill had no doubt that she had broken ribs among other things. Things he did not want to think about it.

As he drove he thought back to the first time he meet her. She was a happy little thing. With bright blue eyes and jet black hair. It was a strong different to the teen girl with the bloody caked hair and batter face he just helped out of a locked space

He had no doubt that this was going to be very bad. He sat in his car and tried to calm down his anger. He would have to be strong for her. She was always a smart kid. He got out of the car and made his way in to the ER.

He just had to get through the next few hours. In his mind he wondered if the phone call he got from Brad Cross was really the rainbow's end Jetta needed.

Only time will tell.
