Monday
Taehyung's phone vibrated in his pocket and he took it out, still leaning against the toilet door. Jungkook would be done in a minute and he'd have to leave and be prepared.
The text was from Jimin. He bit his lip in anticipation. What if he'd guessed what was happening?
Jimin: R u free at 4.30? I can meet u at the cafe :)
He frowned. There was a smiley face. There wouldn't be a smiley face if he knew, would there? It would have been an angry face for sure.
Taehyung: OK. I'll see u then :)
He stuck to the casual smiley like Jimin had and decided that now was the time to leave the toilet. As soon as he stepped out of the door, he noticed Jungkook leaning against the opposite wall with his arms folded, frowning. Oops.
"I was desperate!" Was Taehyung's greeting and excuse.
Jungkook rolled his eyes. "You've been weird all day. What's up with you?"
"Actually-"
The sound of the bell pierced through the air and Taehyung gave up. Evidently there was some higher power that didn't want him to tell anyone about Jimin. He'd have to try again another day.
Yesung was in daycare all day and Taehyung had originally planned to go to the cafe to work but figured that he only needed to be at the cafe to wait for Jimin so wearing uniform was pointless. He stopped off at his house to change and decided on simple black jeans, a black top and a checked shirt on top, buttons undone. He looked in the mirror, checking his outfit. He looked pretty damn hot, he had to admit. He swept his hair back messily and decided he liked the style. It was probably a good idea to style himself a little differently outside school anyway, to hide his identity.
Jimin arrived promptly at 4.30, still wearing his school clothes but wearing a blue jacket on top. Taehyung held his breath, hoping that he wasn't going to say he'd seen him at school. Next to him, Seulgi got the hint and quickly ushered Sicheng through to the back before Jimin noticed him and he noticed Jimin. To Taehyung's relief, Jimin just grinned at him, his white smile sparkling endearingly. The younger made his way round to him and he quickly directed him towards the door.
"Let's go to a different cafe," he smiled nervously. He was nervous for a number of reasons, all of them quite pressing. Firstly, what if someone saw him on a date with his teacher; secondly, what if he were to somehow let slip that he wasn't Sicheng; and thirdly, more of a long-term concern, what was going to happen when Jimin did find out? It was inevitable, after all, and they clearly both had an interest in each other. No doubt that would be the first thing to be lost, along with any trust.
"One far away," he added quietly.
Jimin just nodded happily. "I guess far away is better. No one I know can see us and get jealous of me for having such a handsome date," he joked, earning a chuckle from Taehyung. "So do you want to drive or shall I?"
Taehyung paused. He'd forgotten about the whole car thing. "Oh, er, you can drive. It kinda stresses me out," he excused. Obviously in reality he was too young to drive. If ever Jimin asked to see his car, he would just have to point to Sicheng's car and pretend he never really used it.
Jimin directed him to his car and even opened the door for him. What a gentleman! The sentiment - and their close proximity - made Taehyung's cheeks dust with red and he couldn't stop his heartbeat from increasing. "How far out do you want to go?"
Taehyung thought about it. "How about half an hour away?"
"Sure," Jimin agreed, starting up the car.
The journey wasn't silent or that awkward. Only a little. At the start it had been, but the music streaming from Jimin's phone made it enjoyable, as well as the conversation.
"I really..." Jimin started, looking ahead at the road. When he trailed off, he tapped the steering wheel nervously. "I really like you, Sicheng-ah. I know it's only our second date and all but-"
Taehyung could see that Jimin was now awkwardly rambling and butted in to save him the embarrassment, also a little ticked off that Sicheng's name was used to tell him that. "It's okay, hyung. I like you too," his recently cooled cheeks flared red again and he glanced sideways at his date, who was biting his lip but smiling a little.
"I'm a teacher," Jimin admitted suddenly and Taehyung's eyes widened, hoping he wasn't thinking along the lines that dating students was wrong. Instead, Jimin glanced at him briefly before turning back to the road. "I hope you won't hold that against me."
Taehyung relaxed and chuckled awkwardly, looking out the window to hide his 'phew' expression. "It's okay," he said. "It's me that's the problem," he added quietly so that Jimin didn't hear.
They found a cafe near to the Han River and Taehyung felt a little more secure, being so far away, that no one would see them.
Halfway through their hot chocolate and cake during a slight pause in conversation, Jimin's fork stopped moving. Taehyung looked up to see what he was doing and caught his date's gaze resting lightly on him. When their eyes met, they both smiled and laughed a little.
"I like this," Jimin said. "Being with you. We should do this more often."
Taehyung snorted. "We only met three days ago, hyung."
Jimin blushed a little and apologised. "Sorry, I'm a hopeless romantic - love at first sight and all that. Do you? Believe in love at first sight?"
Taehyung looked down at his cake and took a breath. "I do," he started, but he paused as though he was going to say something else.
"But?" Jimin prompted, his smile faltering a little, but not noticeably for Taehyung who refused to look up.
"I just... I don't think I'm ready for a relationship," the younger said, forcing the words to leave his throat. He hated lying. Always had. He wanted to be able to date Jimin badly. He liked him a lot. He was fun, handsome and sweet. What more was there to look for?
Jimin's face fell completely. "Then... why are you here? With me? On a date?" His eyes turned puppyish. "I really like you, I'll do anything to see if we can work, we can take it slow. If you really don't want to, I can understand, I can wait, but please don't say you want to end this already," Jimin's eyes were so sad that Taehyung found it hard to look into them without guilt. But he had a point. Why was he there on a date with him? He knew he shouldn't be.
"I don't!" He found himself blurting out and his hand instinctively shot across the table to take Jimin's hand in his. "I do like you! Really! I just..." He watched Jimin's face change to one of hope and he couldn't finish. "Okay," he sighed with a smile. "We can see how things go. But it may be you who changes your mind when you get to know me."
Me again:
